Practical tips
The festival takes place at high altitude on a mountain pasture: bring hiking shoes, warm clothes for the evening, and a flashlight for the return. The site is accessible on foot from Soultzeren (30 min). Carpooling is strongly encouraged, as parking is limited. The site capacity is 4,000 people: book your tickets in advance.
A festival among the cows
The Open Air Meuh'Zik Festival was born in 2016 from an idea as original as it was audacious: to organize an open-air music festival on the pastures of the Glasborn farm inn, in Soultzeren, in the Munster valley. The setting is exceptional: a high-altitude meadow surrounded by forests and Vosges ridges, where Vosges breed cows usually graze. The festival's name — Meuh'Zik, a contraction of "moo" and "music" — humorously summarizes this unlikely marriage between mountain agriculture and live music.
Promoting mountain agriculture
Beyond music, the Meuh'Zik Festival aims to promote mountain agriculture. The festival highlights the work of the farm innkeepers of the Vosges massif, the Vosges cattle breed, and the traditional marcaires (mountain cheese makers). Mountain gastronomy plays a central role: festival-goers can taste local specialties prepared with products from mountain agriculture, directly on the farm inn's site.
Varied sounds at altitude
The musical programming of the Meuh'Zik Festival has evolved over the editions. The first edition, in 2016, featured Austrian and Tyrolean sounds with bands like Egerländer, Die Grubetaler, and Tschirgant Duo, echoing the musical traditions of neighboring alpine regions. Subsequent editions have broadened the musical palette to include various genres: rock, folk, traditional music, variety, and popular music, always in a festive and accessible spirit.
An eco-responsible festival in the mountains
Respect for the mountain environment is a fundamental commitment of the festival. All containers — glasses, cups, mugs — are deposit-based and reusable. The majority of food products come from local producers, especially from mountain agriculture. Festival-goers are made aware of respecting the natural site: the pasture hosting the festival is a living space, shared with animals and nature. This consistent ecological approach makes Meuh'Zik a model of responsible mountain festival.
A hundred volunteers at the summit
The organization of the Meuh'Zik Festival relies on the commitment of about a hundred passionate volunteers. From setting up the stages to welcoming the public, including catering and security, these volunteers bring to life an event with a capacity of 4,000 people on a mountain site. Their energy and dedication are the beating heart of a festival that brings together lovers of music, mountains, and the Vosges terroir in a unique celebration.
