The Carnaval de Flayat is a festive and colorful event organized by the Café de l'Espace in the commune of Flayat, on the Plateau de Millevaches in Creuse. Inspired by the Dunkerque carnival, it features a costumed parade through the village streets, the burning of the king, the throwing of cardboard herrings from the café balcony, all accompanied by batucada and samba by the Limouzi Samba Gang. A carnival with a Dunkirk flavor in Creuse

Since 2023, the Carnaval de Flayat has been bringing color and music to the streets of this commune on the Plateau de Millevaches. Organized by the Café de l'Espace, this carnival is loosely inspired by the Dunkerque carnival, offering a joyful and wild costumed parade. Participants, dressed according to the year's theme, parade through the village to the rhythm of percussion and samba.

Batucada, herring toss, and king burning

The highlight of the show is provided by the Limouzi Samba Gang, about thirty musicians offering a festive repertoire of samba, reggae, and world rhythms. The parade ends in front of the Café de l'Espace, where participants witness the traditional cardboard herring toss from the balcony and the burning of the king. Mulled wine and treats are distributed to children and adults.

An intergenerational moment

The Carnaval de Flayat is an intergenerational moment of celebration that brings together young children, young parents, and village elders in a warm atmosphere. Each edition features a different theme: after "Tales and Legends" and "Animal Carnival," residents compete in creativity in making their costumes. The success of the first editions has confirmed the sustainability of this winter event.
