About Fête de la Montagne

The Montagne Limousine Festival is a free, rotating event that brings together those who live and work in the Montagne limousine, a region spanning the Creuse, Corrèze, and Haute-Vienne departments. It is held on the last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of September, in a different town each year. Relaunched in 2015 in Tarnac, inspired by the 'Fête des Plateaux' of the 1980s, it features concerts, a farmers' market, local craft stalls, debates, films, entertainment, and refreshment bars. The program is created by the residents themselves, without a selection committee.

Fête de la Montagne — edition 2026

The Fête de la Montagne Limousine takes place in Eymoutiers, Haute-Vienne, from Friday, September 25th to Sunday, September 27th, 2026. This rotating festival, hosted each year by a different commune in the Montagne Limousine, brings together around forty shows and concerts, sixty stalls, twenty discussions, and just as many activities. The opening night on Friday begins with a band playing revisited traditional Greek music, followed by the Indonesian group Sukunati. Admission is free.

2026 Edition in Eymoutiers

The Fête de la Montagne Limousine has been running for eleven years and is held this year in Eymoutiers, Haute-Vienne, with the support of the municipality. It takes place from Friday, September 25th to Sunday, September 27th, 2026, running from 5:00 PM on Friday until 4:00 PM on Sunday.

The festival is nomadic: each year, a different commune in the Montagne Limousine hosts it, across the three departments of Creuse, Corrèze, and Haute-Vienne. The first edition was held in 2015 in Tarnac.

A program built by participants

The program is participatory: it is designed by those who propose what they are passionate about. Program registrations closed on August 1st, 2026; stall applications remain open until September 10th. The association published the list of received proposals in early August and will announce the full schedule by the end of August.

The town during the festival

Part of the town center is closed to traffic. The main stage and most themed stalls are located at Place Stalingrad, the Saturday market is on Rue de la Paix, games, sports, and exhibitions are at Pré l'Annaud, screenings are at the Jean Gabin cinema and the 4th-floor hall of the town hall. Boulevard Karl Marx is closed just like on market days.

Preparing for the festival

A preparatory meeting will be held on Monday, August 24th, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the large hall on the 4th floor of the town hall, 8 rue de la Collégiale, and a public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 3rd. The association is looking for volunteers for signage, setting up marquees, refreshment bars, reception, parking, and catering: a sign-up sheet is available at the Eymoutiers tourist office, or by phone at 06 75 44 72 13 and by email at [email protected].

A rotating festival across the Montagne limousine

The Montagne Limousine Festival changes location every year, rotating between the three departments of Creuse, Corrèze, and Haute-Vienne. It takes place on the last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of September. Any town in the region can apply to host it: a team is then formed by local residents and the municipal council.

From the Fête des Plateaux to today

The festival was relaunched in 2015 in Tarnac by residents from Creuse, Corrèze, and Haute-Vienne who wanted to recapture the spirit of the 1980s 'Fête des Plateaux', which showcased the creativity and innovation of the area. It is also designed as a meeting point for populations who rarely have the chance to cross paths: children, young people, and the elderly, whether they are long-time locals or recent arrivals.

A program written by the residents

The program is not the result of organizers scouting for specific speakers; anyone who wants to share what they do or what they are thinking about can sign up and find their place. The program includes: concerts, a farmers' market, local craft stalls, entertainment, debates, films, and refreshment bars.

A festival without subsidies

Admission is free. The festival is independent of any subsidies or corporate sponsorship: its resources come from the refreshment bars, meals organized by the association, and the generosity of participants. The association does not pay performers, and individuals, associations, and businesses that host a stall or offer an activity pay a membership fee of €5 or more. It is registered at the sub-prefecture of Ussel, in Corrèze.
