International Festival of Student Short Films
Chalon Tout Court is an international festival dedicated to short films made as part of higher education — film schools, art schools, universities. Born in 2009 from the collaboration between teachers and students of the professional degree in Techniques and Activities of Image and Sound from the IUT of Chalon-sur-Saône and the Média Art school, this festival screens and awards about forty films each year in all genres: fiction, animation, documentary, and experimental.
Since 2009, Chalon Tout Court has established itself as a unique event in the French film landscape: a festival entirely dedicated to short films made by students from film schools, art schools, and universities around the world. Organized at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Chalon-sur-Saône, this festival offers an exceptional showcase for the young filmmakers of tomorrow.
Chalon Tout Court was born from the collaboration between teachers and students of the professional degree in Techniques and Activities of Image and Sound from the IUT of Chalon-sur-Saône and the Média Art school. This dual academic and artistic lineage gives the festival its unique identity: demanding in terms of the quality of the selected works, but deeply supportive of the young creators taking their first steps in the world of cinema.
Each year, about forty short films are selected from hundreds of submissions from around the world. All genres are represented: fiction, animation, documentary, experimental film. This diversity enriches the competition and allows the audience to discover a range of perspectives, styles, and narratives from the new generation of filmmakers.
The festival awards several prizes: the Grand Prize from the professional jury, the Student Jury Prize, the Audience Award, and the Creative Film Award. Beyond the competition, Chalon Tout Court offers conferences, master classes, practical workshops, and preview screenings, all opportunities for young directors to meet their audience and film professionals. The festival is a true place for exchange and transmission between generations of filmmakers.
Chalon Tout Court returns at the end of March 2026 to the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional for a new edition of the international festival of student short films. Screenings, awards, conferences, and meetings with young filmmakers are on the program.
