The Cherry Festival of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux
Saint-Bris-le-Vineux (89530) is one of the most remarkable wine-growing villages in the Yonne. It is known for its Saint-Bris AOC, the only white wine from Burgundy made from the Sauvignon grape variety, and for the richness of its centuries-old wine heritage. But Saint-Bris hides another treasure: its cherry trees, which dot the hillsides and make the village a historical player in cherry cultivation in Burgundy.
Wines and cherries: two jewels of the terroir
The historical archives of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux bear witness to a tradition of excellence in both wine and fruit growing. The village is one of the birthplaces of cherry cultivation in France, with local varieties cultivated for centuries on the well-exposed slopes of the Yonne valley. The Cherry Festival is an opportunity to highlight this fruit heritage alongside the vineyard.
A festival of terroir and sharing
The Cherry Festival offers a festive and gourmet program:
- Producers' market with fresh cherries directly from the orchards of Auxerrois
- Stalls of processed products: jams, kirsch, clafoutis, liqueurs, syrups
- Wine tastings from the local vineyard: Saint-Bris AOC, Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerre, Irancy
- Visits to cellars and vineyards with the winegrowers of Saint-Bris
- Musical entertainment and festive atmosphere in the village
- Gastronomic workshops around cherries and wine
