The Italian film festival in Niort
Born in 2023 from the initiative of about thirty Niort cinephiles who love Italy and its cinema, CinéTalia has quickly established itself as an anticipated cultural event in the Deux-Sèvres region. The eponymous association, formed to promote Italian cinema in all its richness, organizes a five-day festival every spring at the CGR in Niort, a twelve-screen multiplex located on Place de la Brèche.
The concept is ambitious: to offer fifteen Italian films mixing essential classics and contemporary works, accompanied by meetings with actresses, actors, and directors from Italy. Each edition explores different themes and filmographies, offering the Niort audience a dive into the richness of Transalpine cinema.
From its very first edition in 2023, CinéTalia made a strong impression by welcoming Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, a Franco-Italian actress and director whose work sensitively explores the intricacies of family relationships, and Caterina Murino, a Corsican actress of Sardinian origin who rose to public prominence in the James Bond film Casino Royale. The second edition in 2024 hosted Laura Morante, Nanni Moretti's favorite actress in The Son's Room, and Anna Galiena, a major figure in Italian auteur cinema.
These prestigious presences testify to the credibility gained by the festival in record time and the vitality of the Franco-Italian cultural network in Niort.
CinéTalia's program is structured around thematic cycles that span the history of Italian cinema. The 2025 edition thus featured a Luchino Visconti cycle with Bellissima, Senso, and The Innocent, a focus on Silvana Mangano through the lens of Pier Paolo Pasolini with Teorema and Oedipus Rex, and a window onto contemporary cinema with three films by director Paolo Virzì: Like Crazy, Magic Nights, and The Best of Youth.
In four editions, CinéTalia has succeeded in building a loyal audience of cinephiles and attracting new viewers curious to discover Italian cinema beyond clichés. The partnership with the CGR in Niort guarantees optimal screening conditions, notably thanks to the ICE room equipped with a giant screen and immersive sound.
CinéTalia returns for its 4th edition from April 24 to 26, 2026, at the CGR in Niort. The festival will continue its exploration of Italian cinema by offering a program mixing classic films and contemporary works, accompanied by meetings with personalities from Transalpine cinema.
The detailed program, guests, and ticketing will be announced in the weeks preceding the festival on the CinéTalia association's website.
