Concerts au Village: Contemporary Music at the Heart of a Medieval Bastide

In the heart of Lot-et-Garonne, the bastide of Monflanquin, listed among the most beautiful villages in France, hosts the Concerts au Village festival every year. Born in 2013 from the initiative of the association De l'un à l'autre, this ambitious cultural project has established itself as a major player in the development of contemporary music in the Bastides en Haut-Agenais Périgord region.

A Friendly and Eclectic Summer Festival

The highlight of the year is the summer festival, which takes place over two days in July in the heart of the village. The program, resolutely focused on musical diversity, features world music, rock, folk, pop, and fusion music. The concerts take over the squares and alleys of the bastide, notably Place Bernard Palissy, offering an exceptional heritage setting for open-air musical evenings.

The festival is distinguished by its warm and accessible atmosphere. The traditional Bal aux Canelles, organized around the village washhouse, opens the festivities with food, drinks, and dancing, in a spirit of conviviality and sharing. The deliberately low prices (from €5) allow as many people as possible to enjoy the program.

La Cave: An Original Venue for Contemporary Music

Beyond the summer festival, the association animates La Cave throughout the year, a performance venue located on the Placette des arts in Monflanquin. This intimate space with a capacity of 100 people, housed in a medieval structure that has successively served as a cabaret, a performance hall, and a tavern over the past fifty years, is now dedicated to contemporary music. Two concert seasons are programmed there each year: four concerts in the spring and four in the autumn.

Artist Residencies and Cultural Events

Concerts au Village is not limited to music performance. The association hosts artist residencies in Monflanquin through the Garage Résidence program, allowing musical groups to create and rehearse immersed in the region. Workshops with schoolchildren, meetings with residents, and showcase concerts complete this cultural mediation work.

A member of FEDELIMA (Federation of Contemporary Music Venues), the association is part of a national network of organizations committed to the development of contemporary music and access to culture for all. It also carries the Bâbord label, which advocates for more supportive, inclusive, and environmentally friendly music.

Strong Territorial Roots

Concerts au Village actively contributes to the valorization of Monflanquin's heritage and the cultural attractiveness of the Haut-Agenais region. By offering a demanding program in a rural setting, the association creates connections between people and offers a different cultural vision in rural areas, true to the founding mission of the association De l'un à l'autre.
