The Cuban and Latin music festival on the island of Noirmoutier
Cuban'île is the Cuban and Latin music festival of the island of Noirmoutier, organized every summer in the heart of the village of L'Épine. For several days, the Vendée island vibrates to the rhythm of salsa, Cuban son, cha-cha-chá and Latin American music, with open-air concerts, dances, and dance classes open to all. Driven by a passionate local association, Cuban'île combines concerts by Cuban and Latin bands, a festive atmosphere, and a total change of scenery under the Atlantic sun, making Noirmoutier a Caribbean archipelago for an unforgettable weekend.
Every summer, the island of Noirmoutier transforms for a weekend into a piece of Cuba in the middle of the Atlantic. Cuban'île is one of the few Cuban music festivals in France, organized in the natural and preserved setting of L'Épine, one of the four villages on this island on the Vendée coast connected to the mainland by the famous Passage du Gois.
Since its creation in the early 2000s, Cuban'île has become a must-attend event for lovers of Cuban and Latin music, but also for anyone wishing to share a few days of celebration, dance, and conviviality in an exceptional island setting. The island of Noirmoutier, with its salt marshes, fragrant pine forests, and fine sandy beaches, offers an incomparable natural backdrop for this Cuban interlude in the heart of the Vendée summer.
Cuban music is one of the richest and most influential in the world. Born from the crossbreeding of the African tradition of slaves and European music—mainly Spanish—it has given rise to a proliferation of musical genres of extraordinary vitality: son cubano, guaracha, danzón, cha-cha-chá, mambo, bolero, rumba, conga, timba, salsa... Each of these styles has its own history, its own characteristic instruments (piano, double bass, brass, Afro-Cuban percussion—congas, bongos, timbales—clave, maracas, güiro), and its own dance figures.
Cuban'île explores this richness by inviting internationally renowned Cuban and Latin bands alongside French groups specializing in Latin music. The open-air stages host everything from large salsa orchestras to traditional son trios, bolero duos, or Afro-Cuban jazz ensembles.
The festival is structured around three complementary axes:
The open-air concerts are the heart of the program. Every evening, top musical groups take over the main stage for fiery sets that get the audience dancing late into the night. The lineup alternates between renowned artists from the international salsa scene and emerging bands, guaranteeing discoveries at each edition.
The Cuban dances are another highlight of the festival. Organized in dedicated spaces, often outdoors, they allow dancers of all levels to learn or perfect their practice of salsa, son, cha-cha-chá, and rumba. The atmosphere is particularly warm, bringing together regulars and newcomers in the same joy of dancing.
Dance classes and workshops are offered throughout the festival, led by instructors specializing in Cuban and Latin dances. These introductory sessions, accessible without any prior experience, allow everyone to learn the characteristic hip movements of salsa and the basic steps of Cuban dances. Intensive courses for experienced dancers complete the educational offerings.
The island of Noirmoutier, accessible by the Passage du Gois (at low tide) or by bridge since 1971, is one of the jewels of the Vendée coast. Its salt marshes produce exceptional fleur de sel, its pine forests perfume the warm summer air, and its mimosas bloom as early as February. The island is home to four municipalities—Noirmoutier-en-l'Île, La Guérinière, L'Épine, and Barbâtre—each with its own distinct character.
L'Épine, a village of peaceful charm located in the center of the island, provides the ideal setting for the festival. Its picturesque streets, its fortified Romanesque-Gothic church, and its green spaces host the stages and activities in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The proximity of the salt marshes and the pine forest brings a welcome coolness during summer evenings.
Cuban'île is above all an associative and participatory festival, driven by a team of passionate volunteers who work year-round to ensure the festival runs as smoothly as possible. This human and warm dimension is one of the hallmarks of the event, which cultivates a family-friendly and welcoming atmosphere, far from large industrial festivals.
The festival is also committed to sustainable development, seeking to limit its environmental impact on the island, a Natura 2000 zone, by reducing waste, promoting local products, and limiting transportation.
Cuban'île returns in July 2026 for three new days of Cuban and Latin music on the island of Noirmoutier. Concerts, open-air dances, and dance classes in the village of L'Épine, with a lineup of top Cuban and Latin artists.
Cuban'île announces its return in July 2026 for a new edition of its Cuban and Latin music festival on the island of Noirmoutier. For three days, the village of L'Épine will host open-air concerts, Cuban dances, and dance classes in a warm and festive atmosphere.
The 2026 lineup, which will be announced in the spring on the festival's official website and social media, will bring together, as every year, exceptional Cuban and Latin artists, French groups specializing in Latin music, and DJs for Afro-Cuban evenings. Dance classes will be offered from the morning onwards to allow all festival-goers to discover or improve their Cuban dance skills.
By Bridge: The Noirmoutier bridge (D38) has connected the island to Beauvoir-sur-Mer since 1971. Access from the N137 (Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie direction north or Challans direction west).
By the Passage du Gois: This 4.5 km submersible road is only passable at low tide (approximately 2 hours before and after low tide). Consult the tide times before setting off. The Passage du Gois connects Beauvoir-sur-Mer to Barbâtre.
L'Épine is located in the center of the island, about 5 km from the bridge. Follow the D38 then the signs for L'Épine. Free parking is available on the outskirts of the village. It is advisable to come by bike from the campsite or from another village on the island: cycle paths connect the four municipalities.
The island of Noirmoutier has numerous campsites, hotels, and seasonal rentals. It is essential to book several weeks in advance, as accommodations are fully booked during the summer season. Several campsites are located near L'Épine.
Prices and online ticketing are available on the official festival website. Multi-day passes are offered at a preferential rate. Reduced rates are available for children under 12 and the unemployed. Some pre-festival concerts may be free.
Food stalls are present on the festival site, offering Cuban and Latin specialties as well as local Vendée products. Restaurants in the village of L'Épine are open; reservations are recommended.
