About Dieulefit Ceramic Biennial

The Dieulefit Ceramic Biennial is a biennial potters' market organized by the Maison de la Céramique at Parc de la Baume. Heir to two millennia of pottery tradition, Dieulefit still has about thirty active ceramicists. Every two years in June, over 70 professional ceramicists from France and Europe exhibit their creations during this weekend dedicated to the art of clay. Demonstrations, exhibitions, guided tours, and guest artists complete this celebration of ceramic heritage.

The Ceramic Biennial: Dieulefit, land of potters for two thousand years

Dieulefit is inseparable from ceramics. Since the Gallo-Roman era, potters have exploited local clays to shape a tradition that has endured for two millennia. Even today, about thirty potters and ceramicists perpetuate and renew this know-how in the village and its surroundings. The Dieulefit Ceramic Biennial, organized by the Maison de la Céramique, is the unmissable event that celebrates this living heritage.

Over 70 professional ceramicists

Every two years, in June, the Parc de la Baume hosts over 70 professional ceramicists selected for the quality and originality of their work. From all over France and Europe, these artisans and artists present a wide variety of techniques: stoneware, porcelain, raku, glazed earthenware, faience, wood firing, and many others. The creations range from utilitarian and culinary pottery to contemporary sculptures, offering a complete panorama of today's ceramics.

Guest artists and renewed themes

Each edition highlights guest artists who present their approach and works in a dedicated space. The 2025 edition, on the theme "In liquidum veritas", featured François Bauer, Chloé Courbet, Jessica Patenay, and the Poterie des Grands Bois. The Biennial gardens offer demonstrations of jar making using the coil method, tea ceremony rituals, and ceramic installations.

The Maison de la Céramique: a place of memory and transmission

The Maison de la Céramique du Pays de Dieulefit is the beating heart of the event. This museum-workshop offers free access to two exhibitions and several screenings during the Biennial. Throughout the year, the Maison de la Céramique offers workshops, guided tours, educational programs, and a museum space dedicated to traditional pottery heritage.

A remarkable natural and heritage setting

The Parc de la Baume, a vast wooded area in the heart of Dieulefit, offers a green setting for this event. Visitors stroll among the stands under century-old trees, in a friendly and rustic atmosphere. Guided tours of the village, offered by the tourist office, allow visitors to discover the potters' workshops and the architectural heritage of this town labeled Ville et Métiers d'Art (City of Arts and Crafts).
