Kite festival on Tatihou Island in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue
Et vole Eole à Tatihou is a kite festival held every spring on Tatihou Island, in the bay of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. Organized in partnership with the Cherbourg association Ventissimo, this family event celebrates wind, nature, and creativity. The island is adorned with wind gardens, artisanal windmills, kites, and wind socks. Workshops allow children to make and decorate their own kites.
Every spring, Tatihou Island, a natural and heritage gem in the bay of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, comes alive with the wind for the Et vole Eole festival. This spring event, which has become a tradition since its creation, celebrates wind in all its forms in an exceptionally beautiful island setting.
The festival is organized in partnership with Ventissimo, an association of wind and kite enthusiasts from Cherbourg. The association's members bring the island to life with a spectacular display of wind gardens, artisanal windmills, kites of all sizes and shapes, wind socks, and aerial inventions that are as poetic as they are ingenious. The island transforms into a vast, colorful, and dynamic playground, driven by the sea breeze.
Et vole Eole is above all a family and participatory event. The Ventissimo association offers kite-making workshops where children can build and decorate their own kites, which they can then fly on the island's lawns facing the sea. These moments of shared creativity are at the heart of the festival's spirit.
Accessible on foot at low tide or by amphibious boat, Tatihou Island is a listed site that houses remarkable gardens, a maritime museum, the remains of Vauban's fortifications – a UNESCO World Heritage site – and a 19th-century lazaretto. The Et vole Eole festival offers a chance to discover this unique heritage in a festive and relaxed atmosphere, where wind, sea, and creativity combine to offer a moment of simple, shared joy.
Et vole Eole is part of the annual cultural program of Tatihou Island, managed by the Department of Manche. Throughout the year, the island hosts cultural events, exhibitions, and shows, with Et vole Eole being one of the most anticipated, marking the site's spring reopening.
The 13th edition of Et vole Eole à Tatihou will be held on April 11th and 12th, 2026, on Tatihou Island, with Ventissimo on the theme of marine creatures. Wind gardens, giant kites, making workshops, and wind-themed activities.
