Les Égaluantes: Cinema Celebrates in Carentan

Created in 2016 by a group of friends from Carentan-les-Marais, the Les Égaluantes festival was born from a simple idea: to bring cinema to life in the Cotentin in a friendly, accessible, and popular spirit. In ten years, the festival has become a must-see cultural event in the Manche region, attracting over 16,000 festival-goers for its 10th edition in 2025.

A Rich and Varied Film Program

Every end of November, for four days, Les Égaluantes offers an eclectic program: exclusive film previews, documentaries, short films, series, heritage films, and cinema classics. The festival also organizes cine-concerts, cine-snacks for the youngest, and special meetings with directors, actors, and technical crews of the presented films. The room "Les P'tiots Égalués" is specially dedicated to introducing toddlers to the magic of cinema.

Iconic Locations in Carentan

The festival takes over several locations in Carentan-les-Marais: the Cinéma le Cotentin (rue Holgate), the Documen'Terre hall, Le Théâtre, the Médiathèque, the Cinémobile on the Place du marché aux pommes, and the Magic Mirror, a friendly space set up on Place Vauban. This spread throughout the town transforms Carentan into a true cinema village for the weekend.

Accessibility and Commitment

Les Égaluantes stands out for its commitment to accessibility: inclusive sessions with magnetic loops and OCAP subtitling for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, school screenings welcoming over 2,500 students. The festival mobilizes over 120 volunteers each year, contributing 2,200 hours of collective work.
