Traditional festival celebrating apples and cider in Bubry
The Fête de la Pomme de Bubry is a traditional festival organized every autumn in this rural commune in Morbihan. The event celebrates apples and cider, two emblematic products of the Breton terroir, through pressing demonstrations, tastings, a local producers' market, and activities for the whole family. In a friendly and rustic atmosphere, the Fête de la Pomme perpetuates traditional know-how related to cider production and promotes the agricultural heritage of the Morbihan countryside.
The Apple Festival in Bubry is an autumn event that celebrates one of the most emblematic fruits of the Breton terroir: the apple. In this rural commune in Morbihan, nestled between Lorient and Pontivy, the festival brings together locals and visitors around cider tradition and orchard products.
The highlight of the festival is the traditional apple pressing demonstration using an old-fashioned press. Visitors can witness the cider-making process, from harvesting to pressing, and taste the freshly pressed apple juice. Cider tastings, apple juice, and derivative products (jellies, jams, cider vinegar) complete the experience.
A local producers' market is set up for the occasion, offering old and local apple varieties, farm-produced cider, honey, crepes and galettes, salted butter, and other Breton specialties. Artisans also showcase their creations, from turned wood to wicker baskets.
The Apple Festival offers a varied program of activities for all ages: cooking workshops centered around apples, traditional Breton games, nature walks to discover orchards and hedgerows, and traditional music with pipers and folk groups. Specific activities are planned for children: drawing workshops, outdoor games, and storytelling.
Beyond the celebration, the event contributes to the preservation of old apple varieties and traditional high-stem orchards that shape the hedgerow landscape of Morbihan. Pomological associations are present to raise public awareness about fruit biodiversity and offer advice on planting and maintaining apple trees.
