The royal bastide of Villeneuve plunges back into the Middle Ages
Since 1997, the Faërie Médiévale has transformed the town center of Villeneuve-d'Aveyron into a true medieval city for three days every summer. Organized by the association Villeneuve Médiéval, this festival has become one of the major medieval events in the South of France, attracting thousands of visitors to the remarkable setting of this royal bastide founded in the 13th century, listed among the most beautiful character villages of Rouergue.
A program rich in medieval entertainment
The Faërie Médiévale offers a dense and varied program: medieval artisan market with dozens of local artisans and producers, knight combats in armor, fire shows, bird of prey flights with falconry demonstrations, jugglers, minstrels, storytellers, dancers, and performers who take over the streets and squares of the bastide. Conferences on medieval history and local heritage complete the cultural aspect.
Banquet, ball, and night show
On Saturday evening, a medieval banquet brings together about five hundred guests to the sound of flutes and tambourines, followed by a night show with special effects at dusk. A laser light show on the Place des Conques offers a magical finale open to all. The traditional and medieval ball extends the festivities in a joyful and participatory atmosphere.
Flea market and Sunday market
On Sunday morning, a large flea market is set up on the boulevards of Villeneuve, followed by a traditional market on the Place des Conques featuring local producers. Admission to the Faërie Médiévale is free, allowing everyone to enjoy this immersion into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.
