Great autumn fair of the capital of Sologne, associated with the Gastronomic Days
The Romorantin-Lanthenay Fair is one of the major commercial and festive events in Sologne, in the heart of Loir-et-Cher. Every year on the last weekend of October, the capital of Sologne hosts a large fair that unfolds in the streets of the town center and on the squares, with hundreds of exhibitors, traveling merchants, local producers, and a funfair. This event is closely linked to the famous Gastronomic Days of Sologne, a renowned gastronomic show created in 1978 that showcases food artisans and great chefs.
Every last weekend of October, Romorantin-Lanthenay, the capital of Sologne, transforms into a huge marketplace for its great autumn fair. This commercial and festive event, deeply rooted in Sologne tradition, attracts thousands of visitors eager to discover the region's treasures, find good deals, and enjoy a friendly atmosphere.
The fair takes place in the streets of the town center and on the squares of Romorantin-Lanthenay. Hundreds of exhibitors — traveling merchants, artisans, agricultural producers — set up their stalls over several kilometers. You can find everything: food, clothing, tools, furniture, decoration, plants, animals, hardware, and local Sologne products. The fair retains the spirit of the great rural fairs that once punctuated country life.
The highlight of the weekend, the Gastronomic Days of Sologne, created in 1978, is one of the most prestigious gastronomic shows in France. Held at La Fabrique Normant, it brings together around 90 artisan-producers from all over France: charcuterie makers, bakers, chocolatiers, cheesemakers, winemakers, beekeepers, jam makers, and caterers. National and international competitions for cooking, pastry, baking, and sommellerie take place during the show, with the presence of Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (Best Craftsmen of France), European, and world champions.
The Gastronomic Days offer culinary demonstrations by renowned chefs, tastings of exceptional products, and meetings with artisans. Sologne game — roe deer, wild boar, pheasant — takes pride of place, alongside Loire wines, goat cheeses, honeys, and sweet specialties. Admission to the gastronomic show is subject to a fee (around €7 for adults, free for children under 14).
A funfair accompanies the fair with rides and attractions for the whole family. Musical entertainment, street performances, and activities for children complete the weekend's program, making this event a popular and family-friendly occasion in the heart of Sologne.
The Romorantin Fair and the Gastronomic Days are held on the last weekend of October, Saturday and Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
