Romorantin in Music: Sologne Celebrates the Summer Solstice

Every June 21st, the Fête de la Musique in Romorantin-Lanthenay enlivens the streets and squares of the capital of Sologne. Since its first editions in the 1980s, the event has become a must-attend date in the Romorantin festive calendar, uniting amateur and professional musicians in a spirit of sharing and conviviality.

A Musical Route Through the City

The Fête de la Musique in Romorantin is organized around a musical route connecting three emblematic sites of the city:

  • Place de la Paix: The beating heart of the festival, this central square hosts the largest ensembles and open-air concerts.
  • Île de la Motte: This remarkable natural site on the Sauldre river offers a shaded and bucolic setting for acoustic concerts and intimate performances. In case of extreme heat, groups scheduled for other sites are moved here for the audience's comfort.
  • Library Garden: This peaceful location hosts more intimate ensembles, conducive to attentive listening.

An Eclectic and Participatory Program

The City of Romorantin-Lanthenay launches a call for musicians each year to build the Fête de la Musique program. Rock bands, French chanson ensembles, jazz groups, brass bands, choirs, and solo musicians: all styles are welcome, reflecting the diversity of musical practices in the area.

Various Styles

The program generously mixes genres:

  • Rock and Pop: Local and regional bands energize the central square.
  • French Chanson: Singer-songwriters and performers celebrate the French language.
  • Jazz and Blues: Acoustic ensembles take over the more intimate venues.
  • World Music: African percussion, Latin rhythms, and oriental sounds enrich the musical palette.
  • Brass Bands and Choirs: Amateur ensembles bring their collective energy.

An Event Rooted in Solognot Heritage

The Fête de la Musique in Romorantin-Lanthenay is part of the cultural season organized by the City, which also includes the Île de la Motte summer events (Anim'à l'Île), shows at La Pyramide, and events from the Music Conservatory. This free event helps make Romorantin a city where culture is accessible to all, in the heart of Sologne.
