Festi' Mardis: Music at the Heart of Langres' Summer
Every summer, Festi' Mardis transforms the cloister of Saint-Mammès Cathedral in Langres into an open-air concert stage. Every Tuesday evening in July and August, several hundred spectators gather in this remarkable heritage setting to enjoy free concerts in a friendly and festive atmosphere.
An Original and Supportive Concept
The Festi' Mardis concept is based on a unique participatory approach: each evening is entrusted to a different local association—sports clubs, humanitarian associations, artistic groups, or various societies. The selected association chooses one or more musical groups for the evening and manages the food and drink service. All profits go to the organizing association to fund its activities and projects throughout the year. The Events Department of the City of Langres handles overall coordination and provides the stage, sound, and lighting.
An Eclectic Program
The Festi' Mardis program showcases musical diversity. Throughout the evenings, the public discovers regional and local bands in a wide variety of genres:
- Rock and Pop-Rock: Energetic bands that make the cloister walls vibrate
- French Chanson: Artists who carry on the tradition of lyrical songs
- Blues and Soul: Deep and captivating sounds
- Electro and Brass Band: Electrified brass ensembles for dancing
- Funk, Reggae, and World Music: Warm and unifying rhythms
- Hard Rock and Metal: More intense evenings for decibel lovers
An Exceptional Setting
The cloister of Saint-Mammès Cathedral, a 13th-century historical monument located in the heart of the fortified city of Langres, offers a remarkable architectural setting for the concerts. The open-air inner courtyard of the cloister creates ideal natural acoustics and an intimate atmosphere that distinguishes Festi' Mardis from traditional open-air festivals. Spectators enjoy concerts in a historic setting, surrounded by Gothic arcades and ancient stones.
A Loyal and Popular Event
Over the years, Festi' Mardis has become one of the major summer highlights in Langres and the southern Haute-Marne region. Always well-attended, these Tuesday evening musical events attract a loyal, family-friendly audience, including locals and tourists visiting the city of Diderot. Free admission, quality programming, and a convivial atmosphere make it a popular event that punctuates the Langres summer.
