The Vallabrègues Basketry and Craft Festival (Gard) is a historic event dedicated to the village's basket-making tradition, bringing together basket makers, craftspeople, and visitors around demonstrations, exhibitions, and a large craft market.
Important: starting in 2026, the festival will become biennial (every other year) and change season: it will move from August to the first weekend of June. Therefore, there will be no edition in 2026; the next edition is scheduled for June 5 and 6, 2027.
ℹ️ No edition in 2026. The Association de la Vannerie de Vallabrègues announced in 2025 that the festival would switch to a biennial format (every other year). The next edition will take place on June 5 and 6, 2027. No festival will be held in Vallabrègues in 2026 under this name.
Vallabrègues, a small commune in Gard located on the banks of the Rhône, is historically the «village of basket makers». Since 1981, the festival has celebrated the basket-making know-how passed down from generation to generation, as well as crafts in a broader sense: ceramists, woodturners, santon makers, bookbinders, jewelers, etc.
Following difficulties related to a lack of volunteers and high summer temperatures, the organizing association decided in 2025 to:
During each edition, the village comes alive around a large market of basket makers and craftspeople, bringing together dozens of exhibitors from all over France and sometimes from abroad. The program traditionally includes:
Even if there is no festival in 2026, the village remains active around basketry. The Association notably announces participation in the European Artistic Crafts Days (JEMA) 2026 from April 8 to 12, 2026, with mini-discovery workshops (basketry, santons, ceramics, bookbinding) and a market of basket makers and craftspeople on cours Lafayette. For enthusiasts wishing to find the big biennial event, mark your calendars for June 5 and 6, 2027.
ℹ️ 2026 Edition cancelled — the festival becomes biennial. The Vallabrègues Basketry Association announced in 2025 the festival's transition to a biennial rhythm (every other year) and its relocation from August to the first weekend of June. No edition of the Basketry Festival will be held in 2026. The next edition is scheduled for June 5 and 6, 2027.
ℹ️ No Basketry Festival in Vallabrègues in 2026.
The Vallabrègues Basketry Association officially announced in 2025, on its official website and in the local press (Objectif Gard), a revamp of the festival:
This decision was motivated by the difficulties encountered by the association (lack of volunteers, fatigue of the organizing team) and the desire to take the time to properly prepare the next edition.
Even if there is no festival, the association remains active around the village's basketry heritage. Notably, participation in the European Artistic Crafts Days (JEMA) 2026 is planned from April 8 to 12, 2026 in Vallabrègues, with mini-discovery workshops (basketry, santons, ceramics, bookbinding — by reservation) and a market for basket makers and craftspeople on Cours Lafayette.
