Musical exchanges between France and the United States in Thiais
Created in 2004, the Thiais Franco-American Music Festival celebrates musical exchanges between France and the United States every summer. Jazz, film scores, gospel, swing, and popular music converge at the open-air theatre in Parc de l'Europe for two free outdoor evenings, bringing together several thousand spectators in a festive and warm atmosphere.
Since its creation in 2004, the Franco-American Music Festival has been one of the most anticipated cultural events in Thiais, a town in the Val-de-Marne department. Organized by the City of Thiais every year at the end of June, it transforms the open-air theatre of Parc de l'Europe into a stage where music celebrating the deep ties between France and the United States resonates.
The festival was born from a reflection on the cultural exchanges that have nourished musical creation on both sides of the Atlantic. Jazz, invented in the United States and enriched in France; gospel and negro spirituals whose African roots crossed the Ocean; film music, where French and American masters have dialogued for decades; popular music that borrowed as much from American standards as from French songs — all these musical currents illustrate this shared history.
Over the years, the festival has hosted exceptional artists who have showcased the richness of these exchanges. Julia Migenes, Dee Dee Bridgewater, the Garde Républicaine, the Tambours du Bronx, Michel Legrand, the Golden Gate Quartet, Earth, Wind and Fire — these names attest to the artistic ambition of a festival that does not hesitate to invite major figures of jazz, soul, and Franco-American song.
This prestigious program, combined with the complete freeness of the concerts, makes the Franco-American Music Festival a popular event that brings together several thousand spectators from all over the Île-de-France region each year.
The open-air theatre of Parc de l'Europe, located at rue Victor Basch in Thiais, offers an enchanting natural setting for the festival's two evenings. Its grassy tiers and natural acoustics create an intimate atmosphere that fosters communion between the artists and their audience. Spectators gladly relax on the lawns during the mild evenings at the end of June.
In over two decades of existence, the Franco-American Music Festival has become deeply rooted in the cultural life of Thiais and the Val-de-Marne. It has become a summer tradition that residents eagerly await, a moment of conviviality and musical sharing where all generations come together.
The 22nd edition of the Thiais Franco-American Music Festival will be held on June 26 and 27, 2026, at the open-air theatre of Parc de l'Europe. Two free outdoor concert evenings celebrating Franco-American music.
