The Wild Poetry Festival is a unique cultural event organized every summer in La Salvetat-sur-Agout, in the heart of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park, in Hérault (Occitanie). Launched in 2013 at the initiative of poet Jean-Marie de Crozals, the festival's artistic director, and supported by the Déclic association, the event gathers poets, publishers, musicians, dancers, and artists every mid-August around a new theme each year.
The program unfolds throughout the village: town hall square, cultural venues, narrow streets, gardens, chapels, and forest edges. Readings under the wild cherry tree, writing workshops, poetic and musical performances, storytelling, dance, film screenings, exhibitions, round tables, publishers' fair, and poetic strolls punctuate these few days of the festival. Most readings and performances are freely accessible; some workshops and meetings require prior registration due to a limited number of participants.
Supported by the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park and the Maison de la Poésie Jean Joubert, the Wild Poetry Festival takes advantage of the exceptional natural setting of La Salvetat-sur-Agout, a mid-mountain village between lakes and forests. Over the editions, the festival has addressed strong themes: « Lumières d'Afrique » (2017), « Génies du Féminin » (2018), « Jardins », or « Chant du Vivant » (2025). It contributes to the cultural and tourist appeal of Hérault and Occitanie.
Beyond the program, the Wild Poetry Festival cultivates the art of sharing: convivial meals, spontaneous encounters between artists and the public, openness to amateurs as well as seasoned readers. The warm welcome from the volunteers of the Déclic association and the inhabitants makes each edition a unique moment.
The 13th edition of the Festival de Poésie Sauvage is announced for summer 2026 by the municipality and the Déclic association, in La Salvetat-sur-Agout (Hérault).
