The literary and gastronomic event of Périgueux
The Festival du Livre Gourmand in Périgueux is the major annual event for culinary literature in France. Created in 1990 by Xavier Darcos, then deputy mayor for culture, this fair, which became a festival in 2021, brings together authors, chefs, and producers every November around books and gastronomy. Meetings, signings, shows, culinary workshops, and a village of flavors animate the city center of Périgueux for three days.
Since 1990, Périgueux has hosted the Festival du Livre Gourmand (formerly the International Festival of Gourmet Books), the most important literary event dedicated to gastronomy in France. Organized by the City of Périgueux, it is held annually in November at the Théâtre de l'Odyssée and on the esplanade Robert-Badinter, in the heart of the capital of Périgord.
The festival offers a rich program: meetings and signings with authors of cookbooks and gourmet literature, culinary workshops, shows, readings, and activities for all ages. A Village of Flavors brings together about twenty local producers presenting the emblematic products of Périgord: foie gras, truffles, chocolate, walnuts, caviar.
The festival awards three literary prizes: the Prix La Mazille, which rewards a remarkable cookbook, the Prix Dame Tartine, dedicated to children's culinary literature, and the Prix du Roman Gourmand. These distinctions have become references in the world of culinary publishing.
Each edition is placed under the patronage of a renowned chef who serves as its honorary president. This tradition highlights a great name in French cuisine and enriches the program with exceptional masterclasses and culinary demonstrations.
The 21st edition of the Festival du Livre Gourmand is expected in November 2026 in Périgueux. The festival will continue its mission of celebrating culinary literature and the gastronomy of Périgord.
The Festival du Livre Gourmand will return for its 21st edition in November 2026 at the Théâtre de l'Odyssée and on the esplanade Robert-Badinter in Périgueux. The festival will continue its tradition of excellence by bringing together authors of culinary literature, renowned chefs, and producers from the Périgord region.
The program and the name of the honorary president will be announced in the fall of 2026. Consult the official website livregourmand.perigueux.fr for the latest information.
