Traditional dances and music from around the world at Parc du Verney
Founded in 1970, the Festival des Cultures du Monde de Chambéry is one of the oldest and most prestigious folklore festivals in France. Every year around July 14th, Parc du Verney hosts free dance and traditional music troupes from five continents. Affiliated with CIOFF (International Council of Folklore Festivals and Traditional Arts), this international festival offers four to five days of open-air performances celebrating global cultural diversity.
Established in 1970, the Festival des Cultures du Monde de Chambéry is one of the foremost folklore festivals in France. For over half a century, it has transformed the Parc du Verney, Chambéry's green lung, into a stage open to the world each summer, showcasing dances, music, and traditions from all continents.
The festival is a member of CIOFF (International Council of Folklore and Traditional Arts Organizations), an official partner of UNESCO. This affiliation ensures the participation of professional and national troupes representing the richness of intangible cultural heritage worldwide. Each edition brings together groups from six to eight different countries, offering a striking panorama of the diversity of traditional cultural expressions.
True to its mission of sharing and openness, the Festival des Cultures du Monde offers all its performances free of charge. This pricing policy, maintained since the festival's inception, allows a large and diverse audience—families, tourists, dance and music enthusiasts—to gather in a festive and friendly atmosphere.
The Parc du Verney, a vast green space in the center of Chambéry, provides an ideal setting for open-air performances. The main stage, located in the heart of the park, hosts evening shows in a relaxed atmosphere. Festival-goers can freely settle on the lawns to enjoy the performances, have picnics, and explore the world craft and food stalls.
Over the years, the festival has welcomed troupes from all continents: Slovakia, Mexico, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Togo, Colombia, Georgia, Japan, Senegal, Peru, India, and many others. Each group presents a program of traditional dances and music from their country, often accompanied by ceremonial costumes and ancestral instruments. Interactions between the troupes and the audience create unique moments of cultural communion.
In addition to the performances, the festival features a world village with international food stalls, crafts, and information about the represented countries. Participatory dance workshops allow the public to learn traditional dances from the invited groups, making the festival a true space for intercultural exchange.
The 57th edition of the Festival des Cultures du Monde de Chambéry will take place from July 10 to 14, 2026, at Parc du Verney, featuring international traditional dance and music troupes.
