Multidisciplinary performing arts festival in Tournon-sur-Rhône and Tain-l'Hermitage
The Festival des Jardins is a multidisciplinary performing arts event that takes place every spring between Tournon-sur-Rhône (Ardèche) and Tain-l'Hermitage (Drôme). Born in 2021 from an initiative by Compagnie No Man's Land and managed since 2026 by the association Du Vent dans les Collines, the festival takes over everyday places — private gardens, public parks, green schoolyards, bars, terraces — to transform them into ephemeral stages. The program blends theatre, music, literature, and shows for young audiences, with a significant focus on local artists from Drôme-Ardèche and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Every spring, the Festival des Jardins transforms private and public gardens — as well as other everyday places like green schoolyards, bars, or terraces — in Tournon-sur-Rhône and Tain-l'Hermitage into ephemeral stages for performing arts. The itinerant format invites the public on a true sensory journey through the two towns, discovering intimate and sometimes little-known places.
The program of the Festival des Jardins is multidisciplinary: theatre, music, literature, body percussion, wanderings, musical evenings, and shows for young audiences coexist throughout the weekend. Each edition offers a curated selection of about ten shows, distributed across different venues in the two towns, with particular attention paid to the quality of the welcome and the proximity between artists and the public.
The program gives pride of place to artists from Drôme-Ardèche and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, with also some guest companies from other regions. This choice reflects the organizers' desire to promote local creation while offering artistic discoveries. The disciplines represented are varied: theatre, dance, music, circus, storytelling, movement arts, and participatory performances.
The Festival des Jardins was born in 2021 from a post-lockdown initiative by Compagnie No Man's Land, which settled in Tournon-sur-Rhône specifically to carry out this project. The original idea was to bring residents together in intimate and open spaces, the gardens, after a period of isolation. The festival found its audience and quickly established itself as an anticipated spring event in the cultural life of Tournon and Ardèche Hermitage.
Since the 2026 edition (5th edition), the festival has been managed by the association Du Vent dans les Collines, conceived by a citizen collective, which expands its geographical scope by integrating Tain-l'Hermitage and offers an enriched multidisciplinary program.
The Festival des Jardins is part of a sustainable and ecological economic approach. By favoring local artists, using existing venues without heavy infrastructure, and maintaining small capacities, the festival limits its environmental impact while fostering proximity between artists and the public. Solidarity pricing (5 € for those on social minimums and under 26) ensures the festival's accessibility to the widest possible audience.
5th edition of the Festival des Jardins, from Friday, May 8 to Sunday, May 10, 2026, between Tournon-sur-Rhône (07) and Tain-l'Hermitage (26). First edition organized by the association Du Vent dans les Collines: 5 multidisciplinary shows (theater, music, body percussion, radio theater) in everyday places transformed into ephemeral stages — public park, private garden, community hall, bar.
The 2026 edition of the Festival des Jardins marks a turning point: for its 5th anniversary, the festival comes under the aegis of the association Du Vent dans les Collines (DVDLC), created by a citizen collective, and expands its scope by integrating Tain-l'Hermitage alongside Tournon-sur-Rhône.
True to the founding spirit of the festival, the 2026 edition invests places not dedicated to live performance: the Parc du Chayla in Tain-l'Hermitage, the Biquette's Garden (private garden) in Tournon, the main hall of the Maison pour Tous, the Bar des Graviers. Each place is temporarily transformed into an ephemeral stage to host a show adapted to its atmosphere.
Five shows punctuate the 3 days: an outdoor wandering theater, a three-act musical evening (Balkan music, song, DJ set), a body percussion show for young audiences, and a radio theater in a bar. The program highlights companies from Drôme-Ardèche and the wider region.
