A month to celebrate reading in Brie Nangissienne
The Festival des Livres et Nous is a literary event organized by the Communauté de Communes de la Brie Nangissienne in Seine-et-Marne. Spread throughout April in eight towns in the area — Grandpuits-Bailly-Carrois, La Chapelle-Rablais, Mormant, Nangis, La Croix-en-Brie, Gastins, Bréau, and Verneuil-l'Étang — this festival celebrates reading in all its forms. About fifty authors from all literary genres come to meet the public during the main book fair in Grandpuits-Bailly-Carrois, while origami workshops, manga introductions, theatrical performances, and comic book drawing classes animate the media libraries and town halls throughout the month.
The Festival des Livres et Nous was born from the desire of the Communauté de Communes de la Brie Nangissienne to promote reading and books in its rural territory in southern Seine-et-Marne. Launched under the impetus of the association CAR Loisirs & Culture, in partnership with the Médiathèque Départementale de Seine-et-Marne, this festival is distinguished by its strong territorial roots: it reaches eight towns throughout April, bringing literature closer to the inhabitants.
The highlight of the festival is the book fair held at the Salle des fêtes de Grandpuits-Bailly-Carrois, bringing together about fifty authors from all literary genres: novels, thrillers, children's literature, comics, poetry, essays, historical narratives. The public can meet the writers, get their books signed, and chat in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Admission is free and open to all, from the youngest to the oldest.
Throughout April, the Festival des Livres et Nous spreads across the towns of Brie Nangissienne with a rich and varied program: origami workshops, manga introductions, theatrical performances, comic book drawing classes, readings aloud, and exhibitions. These events, mostly free, take place in the media libraries, town halls, and schools of the participating towns: La Chapelle-Rablais, Mormant, Nangis, La Croix-en-Brie, Gastins, Bréau, and Verneuil-l'Étang.
The Festival des Livres et Nous embodies a simple and essential ambition: to instill a love of reading in as many people as possible, in rural and peri-urban areas alike. By focusing on proximity and free access, it helps to democratize access to books in an area where cultural offerings remain limited. The festival is also a lever for social connection, bringing together residents of sometimes distant towns around a shared pleasure: that of reading, exchanging, and discovering new voices.
The 3rd edition of the Festival des Livres et Nous is taking place in April 2026 in the towns of Brie Nangissienne. The main book fair is held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Salle des fêtes de Grandpuits-Bailly-Carrois from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with about fifty authors. Literary events are scheduled throughout the month.
