Artistic and popular disorder in Chadrac
The Festival des Mauvaises Graines, which became Chahübohu in 2022, is a multidisciplinary festival born from the desire to democratize culture by opening quality events to the widest possible audience. Organized every spring in Chadrac, Haute-Loire, by La Couveuse (Maison Pour Tous de Chadrac) and the volunteer collective La Tribü du Chahü, the festival transforms the Maison Pour Tous, its outdoor courtyard, and the Forum square into a true Festival Village for three days. The program mixes concerts (rock, electro, rap, French chanson, world music, dub), live performances (theater, clown, hip-hop, street arts), creative workshops, family activities, fetes, artisanal food, and drinks. After ten editions under the name Mauvaises Graines (2010-2021), the collective created Chahübohu, a name forged around "tohu-bohu" (hubbub), "Chadrac", "chahut" (uproar), and "bohu" for "good mood". Faithful to its values of diversity, accessibility, and environmental awareness, the festival remains a must-attend event in the Velay region in spring.
Created in 2010 in Chadrac, a stone's throw from Le Puy-en-Velay, the Festival des Mauvaises Graines was born from the desire of several performing arts associations to democratize culture by making quality events accessible to a wide audience. For ten editions, the Mauvaises Graines collective—about twenty volunteers from diverse backgrounds, united by humanist values and a spirit of discovery—cultivated a generous and eclectic festival, mixing jazz, reggae, rock, electro, metal concerts, theater performances, basketry and pottery workshops, a craft market, seed and plant exchanges, ecological information stands, and children's activities.
In 2022, after a decade of discoveries and sharing, the collective decided to turn a new page. Chahübohu was born: a new festival, a new name, a new identity, new ideas! The name "Chahübohu" is a play on words around tohu-bohu (joyful confusion of mixed things), Chadrac and chahut (festive commotion), and bohu for bonne humeur (good mood). Its subtitle, "Artistic and popular disorder," perfectly summarizes the festival's spirit: an artistic disorder made of shows and concerts, and a popular disorder made of workshops, activities, and moments of sharing for both adults and children.
Every spring, the Maison Pour Tous — La Couveuse, its outdoor courtyard, and the Place du Forum in Chadrac are transformed into a true Festival Village. For three days, the public can enjoy concerts indoors and outdoors (rock, electro-rap, dub, French chanson, world music, folk), live performances (theater, queer hip-hop, clown, street arts, contemporary circus), creative workshops (basketry, pottery, leatherwork, craft beer, writing), a craft market, shows for young audiences, information stands on ecology, agriculture, and the environment, festive activities (treasure hunt, adult fete, escape game, second-hand clothing store), as well as a food and drink area promoting encounters and exchanges.
Supported by La Couveuse — Centre Social et Culturel de Chadrac and the volunteer collective La Tribü du Chahü, the festival champions values of diversity as richness, discovery of performing arts through varied and quality aesthetics, cultural accessibility, and environmental awareness. Prices remain affordable (from 5 to 15 euros per evening, passes available) to remain true to the festival's popular and inclusive mission.
