Classical and baroque music at the Saint-Denis church of Amboise
The Festival Estival d'Amboise, organized by the association Renaissance des Orgues, is one of the oldest musical festivals in the region with over forty editions. Every summer, the collegiate church Saint-Denis d'Amboise hosts a program of concerts showcasing its historic organ and its 1,871 pipes, with organ recitals, piano, baroque music, and chamber music. Works by Bach, Handel, Debussy, Buxtehude, Telemann, and other great composers resonate in this 12th-century church, offering a unique musical and heritage experience.
For over four decades, the Festival Estival d'Amboise has made the vaults of the collégiale Saint-Denis church, a jewel of Romanesque and Gothic architecture in the Loire Valley, vibrate. Organized by the association Renaissance des Orgues, this festival is one of the oldest and most loyal musical events in the Amboise region.
The Saint-Denis church of Amboise, founded in the 12th century, houses a remarkable organ with 1,871 pipes. This instrument, restored and carefully maintained by the association Renaissance des Orgues, is the heart of the festival. Its complete cleaning in 2023 has restored the full brilliance of this exceptional instrument, which offers an ideal sound palette for the baroque and classical repertoire.
Each year, the Festival Estival offers a varied program highlighting the Saint-Denis organ and the acoustic richness of the building:
The 2025 edition marks the 42nd edition of the Festival Estival, confirming the longevity and vitality of this event. The program offers five concerts between July and December, including a trumpet and organ concert to open, organ recitals by cathedral organists, and a Christmas concert.
The Festival Estival d'Amboise is part of an initiative to promote the religious and musical heritage of the city. By bringing the Saint-Denis organ to life and opening the church to a music-loving audience, the festival contributes to the knowledge and preservation of this historic instrument. The association Renaissance des Orgues also carries out awareness and fundraising work for the maintenance and restoration of the organ.
With its concerts spread between July and December, the Festival Estival d'Amboise offers residents and visitors of the Loire Valley a quality musical program in an exceptional architectural setting. Admission is generally free or at a moderate price, allowing everyone to enjoy these musical moments.
The 43rd edition of the Festival Estival d'Amboise will take place in 2026 at the Saint-Denis church with a new program of organ concerts and baroque music.
The Festival Estival d'Amboise returns for its 43rd edition in 2026. The program will be announced on the website of the association Renaissance des Orgues.
