About Nuits du Donjon
Nuits du Donjon — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of Les Nuits du Donjon unveils a new immersive tale projected onto the ancient walls of the Montrichard Fortress. The 2026 season takes place in two parts: a spring period (from April 11th to May 16th, 2026) then a summer-autumn period (from July 25th to October 31st, 2026, depending on the performance evenings). The nocturnal journey through the medieval fortress combines video mapping, monumental projections, and light shows.
Les Nuits du Donjon 2026
For the 2026 season, the Montrichard Fortress reveals a brand new epic story inspired by the historical link between Henri II Plantagenêt and the dissemination of Arthurian tales. The show plunges visitors into an adventure at the heart of the legend of King Arthur's knights: we follow the squire Renaud in his struggle to defend the besieged castle.
Along a nocturnal walking tour of approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, the ramparts and towers of the medieval keep come alive thanks to video mapping, monumental projections, and light shows, sublimating the ancient stones with the magic of the night.
The season consists of two performance periods: a spring section (April 11th to May 16th, 2026) and a summer-autumn section (July 25th to October 31st, 2026), with performance evenings in July, August, September, and October. Times vary depending on nightfall.

Les Nuits du Donjon: A Luminous and Immersive Tour in Loir-et-Cher
The Nuits du Donjon offers a unique night-time experience in the heart of the Montrichard Fortress, one of the most remarkable heritage sites in the Val de Cher. This immersive 900-meter tour invites visitors to walk at dusk from the medieval castle courtyard to the surrounding wooded park, through a spectacular light and sound show.
An Exceptional Visual and Sound Spectacle
The tour features an impressive array of technology: monumental projections on the fortress ramparts and towers, video mapping transforming stone walls into giant animated screens, holograms emerging from the gloom, laser shows drawing luminous arcs in the night sky, interactive digital animations, and an immersive soundtrack that envelops visitors throughout the journey. Each segment of the path tells an episode from an original tale, inspired by the medieval legends of the Val de Cher.
Stories That Come to Life on Stone
Each season of Les Nuits du Donjon revolves around a different original story. In 2025, the tale told is that of La Source des Braves (The Spring of the Brave), a heroic story featuring Aliénor and Renaud, two young heroes on a quest for a miraculous spring to save their besieged people. This narrative, projected onto the ancient walls of the fortress, blends adventure, bravery, and magic in an authentic medieval setting. During the Christmas season, a special version titled Le Coeur de Noël (The Heart of Christmas) transports families into the dreams and memories of a child immersed in a medieval Christmas frozen in time.
An Exceptional Heritage Site
The Montrichard Fortress, with its square keep dating back to the 11th century, provides an ideal setting for this illumination. Built by Foulques Nerra, Count of Anjou, this stronghold played a strategic role in the history of the Loire Valley. The ramparts, towers, and surrounding wooded park form a natural pathway that the show's creators have enhanced with light and sound, bringing these historic stones back to life.
A Family-Friendly and Accessible Event
Les Nuits du Donjon is aimed at a broad family audience, with a route suitable for children aged 5 and up. The walk takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, allowing everyone to proceed at their own pace and fully immerse themselves in the enchanted atmosphere. The event runs in two seasons: an autumn season (October-November) and a Christmas season (December-January), offering two distinct and complementary experiences.
