The Forró Festival: Brazilian dance in a Catalan medieval city

The Festival Forró de Villefranche-de-Conflent is a unique event that bridges two cultures: forró, popular music and dance from the Brazilian Northeast, and the Catalan medieval heritage of this city fortified by Vauban, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Forró, a festive and friendly dance

Forró is a couple dance born in the Northeast of Brazil, characterized by a lively rhythm blending accordion, triangle, and zabumba (drum). A festive dance par excellence, it is practiced in a joyful atmosphere and is accessible to everyone, from beginners to experienced dancers. The festival offers introductions to allow everyone to discover this friendly dance.

A unique heritage setting

Villefranche-de-Conflent, founded in 1092 by the Count of Cerdagne, offers a spectacular setting with its ramparts, cobbled alleys, and Fort Libéria accessible by a 734-step underground staircase. Open-air concerts and balls take on a special dimension in this historic setting, at the confluence of the Têt and Cady rivers, at the foot of the Canigou massif.
