Jazz resonates in the mining basin of Decazeville
Created in 2003, the Mines de Jazz festival is an annual event dedicated to jazz in all its forms in Decazeville, in the Aveyron mining basin. For nearly a week around International Jazz Day (April 30th), the festival offers major concerts at the Espace Yves Roques, jazz walks through industrial and mining heritage, jazz film sessions, exhibitions, and jazz club evenings. Supported by an association of passionate volunteers, Mines de Jazz celebrates the encounter between jazz and the unique history of the Decazeville Basin.
Since 2003, the Mines de Jazz festival has been making the warm notes of jazz resonate in the mining basin of Decazeville, creating a unique dialogue between music and industrial heritage. Born under the evocative subtitle of "2ème Rappel", the festival has established itself as a must-attend event for jazz lovers in Aveyron and throughout the Occitanie region.
Each year, the festival unfolds over nearly a week, around International Jazz Day (April 30th). The program alternates between three major concerts at the Espace Yves Roques, a performance venue that can accommodate several hundred spectators, and more intimate events: jazz clubs, jazz films at Cinéma La Strada, exhibitions, and after-parties extending the evenings in a friendly atmosphere.
One of the festival's highlights is the Jazz Walk, a musical stroll through the unique industrial and mining heritage of Decazeville. Starting from the ASPIBD (Association for the Preservation of the Industrial Heritage of the Decazeville Basin), participants wander through the town's streets, surprised by improvised musical interludes in historic locations. This walk perfectly embodies the spirit of the festival: combining the discovery of jazz with the exploration of the territory.
Over its editions, Mines de Jazz has hosted leading artists from the national and international jazz scene. Saxophonist Scott Hamilton, a figure of mainstream jazz, performed at the 2025 edition alongside the Michael Cheret Quartet. The festival skillfully blends confirmed headliners with emerging artists, offering the public a panoramic view of contemporary jazz.
24th edition of the Mines de Jazz festival in Decazeville, late April-early May 2026. Concerts at Espace Yves Roques, Jazz Walk through mining heritage, jazz film, exhibitions, and jazz club evenings. Program to be announced.
The 24th edition of the Mines de Jazz festival will take place from April 29th to May 2nd, 2026 in Decazeville, around International Jazz Day. As every year, the festival will offer high-level jazz concerts at the Espace Yves Roques, the popular Jazz Walk through industrial and mining heritage, jazz film evenings, and jazz club sessions.
The artistic program will be unveiled in the coming weeks. The festival continues to assert its unique identity: that of a jazz festival rooted in a post-mining territory, where music dialogues with history and heritage.
The main concerts take place at the Espace Yves Roques, Place Cabrol, 12300 Decazeville. Other events are held at Cinéma La Strada and various locations in the town center.
