The smallest of the great jazz and literature festivals
Born in a barn in Asprières in the late 1990s, the Les Nuits & les Jours de Querbes festival is an atypical event mixing contemporary jazz and literature in the heart of northern Aveyron. Nicknamed “the smallest of the great jazz and literature festivals,” it offers every summer jazz concerts with established or emerging artists, readings by actors, literary encounters, shows for young audiences, and music workshops. The festival unfolds between Querbes, Capdenac-Gare, Decazeville, and Figeac, in an intimate and warm atmosphere.
Self-proclaimed “the smallest of the great jazz and literature festivals”, the Les Nuits & les Jours de Querbes festival was born in the late 1990s in a barn in Querbes, a hamlet in the commune of Asprières, in northern Aveyron. What began as a gathering between friends passionate about jazz and books has become, over its editions, a key cultural event for lovers of music and literature in rural areas.
The festival's program is built around two pillars: contemporary jazz and literature. Each edition features jazz concerts with established or emerging artists from the national and international scene, readings aloud by actors, meetings with writers followed by shared meals, shows for young audiences, and music workshops for amateur musicians. The festival stands out for its ability to weave links between the arts, creating moments of dialogue between music and words.
True to its itinerant spirit, the festival unfolds in several locations: Querbes (Asprières), Capdenac-Gare, Decazeville, and Figeac. This nomadic dimension allows the festival to reach diverse audiences and bring culture to rural areas. The chosen venues — barns, cafes, village halls, village squares — contribute to the intimate and friendly atmosphere that makes Querbes unique.
Beyond the summer festival, the association offers a year-round cultural season titled “Au coin du cantou” (the cantou is the fireside corner in Occitan). From November to June, jazz concerts, author meetings with shared meals, artistic education projects, and literary cafes extend the spirit of the festival throughout the seasons.
29th edition of the Les Nuits & les Jours de Querbes festival, from July 31 to August 2, 2026. Contemporary jazz concerts, readings aloud, literary encounters, and music workshops. Program to be announced.
