International itinerant music festival in the heritage sites of Creuse
Since its creation in 2019, the Festival Musique à la Source transforms the most beautiful heritage sites of Creuse into ephemeral concert halls. Romanesque churches, medieval chapels, abbeys, and historical sites host internationally renowned musicians for intimate concerts where the natural acoustics of the venues enhance the artistic performances.
The festival's program covers an exceptional musical spectrum, ranging from the medieval repertoire to the contemporary, including classical, romantic, baroque, and renaissance repertoires. The festival also invites world music artists, creating bridges between the musical traditions of the whole world. Each concert is designed to harmonize with its venue, offering a unique sensory experience combining music and architecture.
Supported by the association Musique à la Source, the festival pursues an ambitious mission: to make scholarly music accessible to the greatest number while promoting the architectural heritage of Creuse. By investing in rural towns sometimes far from traditional cultural circuits, the festival creates a cultural dynamic throughout the territory, attracting a mixed audience of local residents, tourists, and music lovers who come specifically for the event.
The Musique à la Source Festival returns from August 1st to 9th, 2026, for a new itinerant edition in the heritage sites of Creuse. On the program: nine concerts in abbeys, churches, and remarkable sites of the department, notably featuring Julie Depardieu, Edgar Moreau, La Chapelle Harmonique, and Jean-François Zygel, patron of this edition.
From August 1st to 9th, 2026, the Musique à la Source Festival takes over the most beautiful heritage sites in Creuse for a series of nine concerts blending classical, baroque, contemporary, and world music. This edition is sponsored by pianist and music popularizer Jean-François Zygel, who will be present at several events (Fresque de Bridiers in La Souterraine, public workshop in Ahun, closing concert in Chambon-sur-Voueize).
As every summer, the festival enhances the natural acoustics of Creuse's abbeys, churches, and historic sites by hosting internationally renowned artists, from Bénévent-l'Abbaye to Lac de Vassivière, passing through Auzances, Naillat, and Bourganeuf.
