Magical and fantastic festival at the Ferme du Châtel in the medieval city of Provins
Created by the association ALCHYMEA, the Festival of Tales and Legends at the Farm has found its ideal setting at the Ferme du Châtel, in the upper city of Provins, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Every second weekend of August, this free event, open to all, immerses its visitors in a universe where ancient tales, medieval legends, fantasy imagination, and a magical atmosphere blend together.
At the heart of the festival unfolds a magical market where artisans of the marvelous present their creations: elven jewelry, potions, enchanted candles, fantastic costumes, sculpted objects, illuminations, and fantasy illustrations. Each exhibitor contributes to the magical atmosphere of the place, transforming the farmyard into a true fairy-tale village.
Saturday evening is the highlight of the festival. As night falls, a fire show "Une Petite Flamme" ignites the farmyard: jugglers, dancers, and fire-eaters offer a fiery choreography with flaming props and acrobatic feats. The show is followed by a Celtic rock concert that makes the medieval walls of the farm vibrate late into the night.
Professional storytellers share legends and tales from distant lands, taking young and old on imaginary journeys. Live-action role-playing games (LARP) are offered to adventure enthusiasts, allowing them to experience heroic quests in costume within the authentic setting of the medieval city. An outdoor cinema screening on a giant screen completes the evening program.
The festival offers numerous workshops for all ages: making fairy houses, creating fantastic creatures, medieval and fantasy face painting, medieval and Viking wooden games in the Dragon's Enclosure, giant soap bubble animations, and a giant mandala. Each child can leave with their creation and a magical souvenir of this day.
On Sunday, a costume parade winds through the streets of the upper city. Elves, fairies, knights, witches, dragons, and fantastic creatures parade through the medieval alleys, offering a colorful spectacle open to all costumed visitors.
The Festival of Tales and Legends returns on August 8th and 9th, 2026, at the Ferme du Châtel, in the heart of the medieval city of Provins. This free, open-to-all weekend will once again feature its magical market with artisans of the marvelous, its fire show on Saturday evening, a concert, storyteller performances, live-action role-playing games, and numerous creative workshops for families.
The detailed program and guest artists will be announced in spring 2026 on the festival's official website.
