Theater and Humor Festival in Haute-Marne
Created in 1991 by a handful of passionate volunteers, the Festival Plume Verte has established itself as a must-see cultural event in northern Haute-Marne. Initiated by Michel Fournier and the association La Plume Verte, this festival was born from a simple observation: "there wasn't much theater in the region at the time, and even fewer venues to host companies." For over three decades, the festival has continued its mission of making performing arts accessible to everyone in a rural territory.
Each edition of the Festival Plume Verte offers seven evenings of shows in the Thonnance-lès-Joinville village hall. The program happily blends:
The festival hosts local troupes from Haute-Marne — such as Créamuse from Joinville, Le Grand Baz'art from Villegusien-le-Lac, Les Oiseaux from Chaumont, or Der et Blaise from Wassy — as well as companies from all over France. Some editions have even hosted international troupes, demonstrating the event's growing influence.
Supported by the association La Plume Verte, the festival is the result of remarkable volunteer commitment. The association, headquartered at 28 rue du Général de Gaulle in Thonnance-lès-Joinville, also runs a theater workshop throughout the year, creating plays performed by its members. This ongoing activity fuels the festival and maintains a vibrant cultural dynamic in the village.
After years where the festival invited national and even international troupes, recent editions have marked a return to roots by highlighting local and regional companies. This choice strengthens the link between the festival and its territory, while offering a valuable showcase for talents from the Grand Est region.
The festival takes place in the village hall located on rue de Bussy in Thonnance-lès-Joinville, a venue accessible to people with reduced mobility. Performances are held in the evening at 8:30 PM, with Sunday matinees at 3:00 PM. The intimate atmosphere of the hall fosters proximity between artists and spectators, creating a warm atmosphere characteristic of the festival.
Reservations can be made by mail to the association's address or online by credit card via the HelloAsso platform. The festival offers affordable prices, true to its mission of making theater accessible to the greatest number in the rural areas of Haute-Marne.
The 34th edition of the Festival Plume Verte takes place from October 9 to 17, 2026 at the village hall of Thonnance-lès-Joinville (Haute-Marne). Over seven evenings of theatre and humour, seven amateur and professional companies from the Grand Est region will perform on stage with comedies, café-theatre, one-man shows, and dramas tinged with black humour.
