Traveling festival of storytelling and narrative arts in Haute-Marne
Les Diseurs d'Histoires is a traveling festival dedicated to the arts of storytelling and spoken word, organized every autumn in Haute-Marne by the Fédération Départementale des Foyers Ruraux (FDFR 52). Since 1991, the festival has hosted professional storytellers from all over France and the French-speaking world, offering around thirty performances in over 40 different locations throughout the Haute-Marne region: schools, performance venues, media libraries, community halls, and hiking trails.
Every autumn for over thirty-five years, the Les Diseurs d'Histoires festival has transformed Haute-Marne into a vast stage dedicated to the arts of storytelling and spoken word. This unique traveling festival in the Grand Est region invites professional storytellers from all over France and the French-speaking world to tour the department, offering performances close to the residents.
The originality of Les Diseurs d'Histoires lies in its traveling nature. Rather than concentrating performances in a single location, the festival unfolds across the entire Haute-Marne territory, taking over more than 40 different venues throughout its run. Artists perform in varied and often unusual settings:
This itinerant approach makes culture accessible to everyone, including in rural areas furthest from major urban centers, in line with the popular education values promoted by the Foyers Ruraux.
Each edition offers around thirty performances and workshops showcasing the diversity of storytelling and narrative arts. The program explores multiple narrative forms:
Each year, the festival hosts recognized artists from the French-speaking storytelling scene, offering a vibrant and generous panorama of this age-old art form, brought up to date.
Supported by the Fédération Départementale des Foyers Ruraux de Haute-Marne (FDFR 52), created in 1982 and currently federating 58 associations, the festival is fully committed to a popular education approach. Les Diseurs d'Histoires aims to be a sensitive space where words illuminate reality and rekindle the imagination, a cultural project that connects with all residents, weaving links between generations, territories, and people.
Since its creation in 1991, the festival has continuously grown and built a loyal audience. With its 35th edition in 2025, Les Diseurs d'Histoires asserts itself as a major cultural event for the Haute-Marne department and the Grand Est region, contributing to the influence of storytelling and spoken word arts throughout the territory.
The 36th edition of the Les Diseurs d'Histoires festival will be held in the autumn of 2026 throughout the Haute-Marne department. As every year, the festival will offer around thirty storytelling and spoken word performances in more than 40 different locations.
The Les Diseurs d'Histoires festival takes place every year in the autumn, generally from October to the end of November, or even early December depending on the edition. The program spans about six to eight weeks, covering the entire Haute-Marne territory.
As the festival is traveling, performances are held in numerous towns and villages in Haute-Marne. Among the towns and villages hosting performances: Chaumont, Langres, Saint-Dizier, Nogent, Joinville, Auberive, Montsaugeon, Droyes, Champigny-lès-Langres, Rivière-les-Fossés, and many other localities.
Performances take place in various venues: community halls, media libraries, schools, estates, trails, etc. Each performance has its own specific venue indicated in the program.
Tickets are available on the HelloAsso platform and from local partner associations. It is recommended to book in advance, as capacity is often limited in smaller venues.
By car: Haute-Marne is accessible via the A5 motorway (Chaumont exit) or the A31 motorway (Langres exit). As performance venues are scattered throughout the department, a car is the most practical mode of transport.
By train: The stations of Chaumont (TGV and TER) and Saint-Dizier (TER) serve the department. Some performance venues are accessible from these stations.
The festival is for all audiences aged 3 and up. Some performances are specifically for young audiences, while others are for adults. Age recommendations are specified in the program for each performance.
