Magic and local produce in the heart of Haute-Marne
The Chaumont Christmas Market transforms the city center into a festive village each year. Place des Arts hosts gourmet chalets, a colorful carousel, and family entertainment, while Square Philippe Lebon offers an ice rink and attractions for all ages. Artisans and producers from Haute-Marne showcase local know-how with original creations and regional specialties. Illuminations, an inaugural fireworks display, and a warm atmosphere make this event a must-attend during the holiday season in Haute-Marne.
Each year, the city of Chaumont lights up to celebrate the end of the year holidays. The Christmas Market settles in the historic center of the Haute-Marne prefecture, transforming Place des Arts and Square Philippe Lebon into a true winter wonderland. For nearly a month, residents and visitors gather around wooden chalets, enchanting carousels, and various activities that warm hearts despite the December cold.
The gourmet chalet on Place des Arts offers a fine selection of local products and winter treats: mulled wine, hot chocolate, crepes, waffles, artisanal biscuits, sausages, and specialties from the Haute-Marne region. On weekends, merchants and artisans set up shop on the Hôtel de Ville square to present their creations: handmade jewelry, Christmas decorations, scented candles, honey-based products, local cheeses, and other treasures from Haute-Marne. The Departmental Council also organizes its own Christmas market at the Hôtel du Département, bringing together about thirty producers and artisans from Haute-Marne to showcase local know-how.
Place des Arts transforms into a little paradise for children with a colorful carousel, a duck fishing game, and the gourmet chalet. At Square Philippe Lebon, an outdoor ice rink and an additional carousel invite young and old to enjoy the magic of Christmas. Santa's House opens its doors for children to meet the famous red-suited man and take unforgettable souvenir photos. Street performances, musical entertainment, and creative workshops punctuate the program throughout the season.
The festivities kick off with a spectacular inaugural evening on Place des Arts, with joyful melodies, a warm atmosphere, and fireworks illuminating the Chaumont sky. A large Christmas tree stands in Place de la Concorde, while the streets of the city center are adorned with fairy lights and festive decorations. The illuminations plunge the city into an enchanted atmosphere that lasts until the beginning of January, offering strollers a magical setting for their Christmas shopping and family gatherings.
