The Nogent Christmas Market: the magic of the holidays in the cutlery town
Every December, the town of Nogent, a renowned cutlery town in Haute-Marne, hosts its traditional Christmas Market on Place Charles-de-Gaulle, at the foot of the town hall. This festive event, organized by the municipality, brings together locals and visitors in a warm and friendly atmosphere to celebrate the end-of-year holidays.
Over sixty exhibitors in the heart of the town
The Nogent Christmas Market welcomes over sixty exhibitors each year, including many local artisans and producers from the Haute-Marne region. The stalls offer a wide selection of artisanal creations: jewelry, wooden objects, ceramics, scented candles, handmade Christmas decorations, textiles, leather goods, and, of course, the famous knives and scissors from Nogent, a legacy of the town's centuries-old cutlery expertise. Visitors will find unique and authentic gifts for the whole family here.
Delicacies and local flavors
Gastronomy plays a key role at the Christmas Market. Local producers offer their Champagne region specialties: Langres cheese, Haute-Marne honey, confectionery, artisanal chocolates, gingerbread, charcuterie, wines, and champagnes from the region. Food and hot drink stands—mulled wine, hot chocolate, crêpes—allow visitors to warm up and extend their tasting pleasure. The Haute-Marne Culinary Academy also offers tastings and activities centered around local products.
Activities and festivities for the whole family
The Nogent Christmas Market would not be complete without its festive activities that enchant young and old throughout the weekend:
- Santa Claus arrives on the square every day at 3 PM, much to the delight of children who can share their wishes with him and have their photos taken.
- Creative workshops at the town hall: children participate in workshops to make decorations and Christmas items, supervised by facilitators.
- Magical carousel and miniature train: fairground attractions set up on the square delight the youngest visitors.
- Carriage rides through the illuminated streets of the town.
- Shows and musical entertainment punctuate the two days of the market.
- Wheel of Fortune: a free game for children with prizes to be won.
Fireworks as a grand finale
The weekend traditionally concludes with a grand fireworks display fired at 6:30 PM on Sunday evening, visible from the market square. This pyrotechnic show illuminates the Nogent sky and marks the highlight of the Christmas festivities, offering a moment of shared wonder for all visitors.
Nogent, a town with a rich artisanal heritage
The town of Nogent, formerly Nogent-en-Bassigny, is world-renowned for its cutlery heritage dating back to the 18th century. The Cutlery Museum, located a short walk from the market on Place Charles-de-Gaulle, houses over 8,000 objects testifying to this exceptional know-how. The Christmas Market is part of this artisanal tradition by showcasing creators and producers from the Nogent area and the entire Haute-Marne region.
