Joinville Sparkles: Christmas magic in Haute-Marne
Every December, the small, characterful town of Joinville, nestled in the Marne valley at the foot of its medieval castle, is adorned with lights and entertainment to celebrate the holiday season. The Joinville Christmas Market, known by the evocative name of "Joinville Étincelle", has become a must-attend event for residents of Haute-Marne and neighboring departments.
A market in the heart of Place de la Grève
The market is set up on the Place de la Grève, in the historic center of Joinville. Beautifully decorated wooden chalets host a selection of local artisans and producers offering:
- Handcrafted creations: jewelry, wooden objects, pottery, handmade Christmas decorations
- Delicacies and local products: mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, honey, gingerbread, sweets, scented candles
- Gourmet food trucks offering savory and sweet specialties
- Original gift ideas for the whole family
Entertainment and shows for all ages
The Joinville Christmas Market is more than just chalets; it's a true festival of entertainment that delights visitors throughout the weekend:
- Free ice rink set up outdoors for everyone's enjoyment
- Santa's Grotto where children can meet Santa Claus and share their wishes
- Carousels and fairground rides for the younger ones
- Balloon sculpting and face painting for children
- Magic shows in the town hall
- Majorette parade through the town streets
- Concert by the Joinville Municipal Band during the inauguration
Fireworks to light up the town
The highlight of Friday evening is undoubtedly the fireworks display at 8 PM, which illuminates the Joinville sky and creates a truly magical atmosphere. This pyrotechnic show, fired after the official inauguration and the Municipal Band's concert, brings the community together in a moment of sharing and wonder.
The Mystery Showcase: A town-wide game
In addition to the market, the town organizes the "Vitrine Mystère" (Mystery Showcase) game, an original activity that invites visitors to explore Joinville's shopping streets to guess objects hidden in the decorated shop windows. This participatory game strengthens the link between the Christmas market and local businesses, contributing to the animation of the entire town center during the holiday season.
An exceptional heritage setting
Joinville, classified as a "Petite Cité de Caractère" (Small Town of Character), offers an enchanting setting for this Christmas market. Dominated by the ruins of its Château des Princes de Joinville and enriched by the Château du Grand Jardin, a Renaissance gem, the town combines historical heritage and conviviality in a warm and authentic atmosphere. The illuminated old facades, cobblestone alleys, and Notre-Dame church contribute to the magic of the place.
