Shows, concerts, and festive aperitifs at the Château du Grand Jardin in Joinville
Since 2020, the Château du Grand Jardin in Joinville has opened its doors every summer for a series of festive and cultural events called L'Été du Grand Jardin. This 16th-century pleasure pavilion, built between 1533 and 1546 by Claude de Lorraine, the first Duke of Guise, offers a unique heritage setting for musical evenings, live performances, and convivial outdoor moments.
Every Thursday during the summer, from 6 PM to 10 PM, the castle gardens transform into a festive meeting place. The Thursday Aperitifs offer:
The Thursday aperitifs take place on eight dates during July and August, offering locals and visitors the chance to enjoy a friendly moment in a historic location.
In partnership with the association Arts Vivants 52, L'Été du Grand Jardin schedules contemporary circus and street arts performances on Sunday afternoons at 5 PM in the castle park. These carefully selected open-air shows feature trapeze, aerial silks, balancing acts, Chinese poles, and acrobatic lifts to amaze both young and old.
The performances are designed to bring families and all ages together. The artistic quality of the invited companies and the majestic setting of the castle park create a magical atmosphere that delights a loyal audience and new spectators each year.
The Château du Grand Jardin, classified as a Historic Monument since 1925, is a jewel of Renaissance architecture in Champagne. Its four-hectare garden, classified as a Remarkable Garden, offers a lush green setting that is ideally suited for summer performances and events. Owned by the Conseil départemental de la Haute-Marne, the castle is managed by the Agence d'Attractivité de la Haute-Marne, which ensures its cultural programming throughout the season.
L'Été du Grand Jardin is part of the cultural dynamic of Joinville, a characterful Renaissance town, and contributes to the tourist appeal of Haute-Marne. The event brings together local stakeholders, caterers, artists, and the public in a spirit of sharing and discovery of the Haute-Marne heritage.

By car: Joinville is located between Chaumont (approx. 45 minutes) and Saint-Dizier (approx. 30 minutes), accessible via the D60 and N67. Free parking is available in the immediate vicinity of the castle, along Avenue de la Marne.
By train: Joinville station is served by the TER Grand Est line connecting Saint-Dizier to Chaumont. The castle is about a ten-minute walk from the station, following the direction of the town center.
Thursdays in July and August, from 6 PM to 10 PM. Eight evenings are scheduled during the summer, each offering a different concert with on-site catering.
Two Sundays during the summer, at 5 PM in the castle park. Performances generally last between 45 minutes and 1 hour 15 minutes.
Events take place outdoors in the castle park. It is advisable to wear clothing suitable for summer weather, as well as sun protection for afternoon performances. In case of bad weather, organizers may adapt the arrangements. Picnics are not allowed on site, but catering is available during the Thursday aperitifs.
The site is partially accessible to people with reduced mobility. Dogs are not allowed within the castle and gardens.
