The festival of current and emerging music from Hiéro Colmar
The Supersounds Festival is the annual meeting for current and emerging music organized by the Fédération Hiéro Colmar. Every November, about ten evenings of concerts take over Le Grillen and other venues in Colmar to showcase independent artists, underground scenes, and emerging talents from Europe and beyond. Since its creation in the early 2000s, Supersounds has championed a demanding, curious programming focused on discovery, from garage rock to experimental electro, including folk and indie pop.
The Festival Supersounds is one of the flagship events of the Fédération Hiéro Colmar, a pioneering association in the Colmar music scene founded in the early 1990s. For over thirty years, Hiéro Colmar has worked to promote current music through concerts, screenings, and conferences. Supersounds, created in the early 2000s, has become the highlight of this annual program, with about ten evenings concentrated in the month of November.
Supersounds' strength lies in its ability to find unique artists, often unknown to the general public but recognized by critics and fans of independent music. Over the years, the festival has hosted names such as Arabrot, Holly Golightly, La Féline, En Attendant Ana, Ned Collette, and Konstantin Schimanowski. The programming spans genres — garage rock, post-punk, folk, indie pop, noise, experimental electro — with one constant: authenticity and artistic excellence.
Supersounds concerts mainly take place at Le Grillen, Colmar's venue for current music, located at 19 rue des Jardins in the historic center. This intimate venue, with a capacity of 350 people, offers rare proximity between artists and the audience. Some evenings may also take place in other Colmar venues, extending the festival's spirit throughout the city.
Beyond the concerts, Supersounds includes artistic residencies allowing bands to work and create on-site before presenting the results of their work to the public. These collaborative residencies, like that of En Attendant Ana during edition #24, enrich the festival with a dimension of creation and sharing that goes beyond the simple concert format. The public is thus invited to attend the end-of-residency presentations, privileged moments of musical discovery.
Supersounds is part of a rich cultural ecosystem alongside the Festival Natala and other initiatives by Hiéro Colmar. By programming emerging artists and niche acts, the festival actively contributes to the renewal of the music scene in Alsace and offers Colmar residents a window onto the most stimulating musical trends of the moment. Its longevity — over twenty editions — testifies to the loyalty of a curious and passionate audience.
