Granville in music for the summer solstice
Every June 21st, the corsair city of Granville celebrates the Fête de la Musique with an eclectic program taking over the pedestrianized town center, the Christian Dior Garden, and cafe terraces. This popular and free festival brings together amateur and professional musicians from 10:30 AM to 1 AM. Rock, pop, French variety, classical, and DJ sets follow one another on the Place du Général de Gaulle and in various locations across the city.
Granville, perched on its rocky promontory facing the sea, offers an exceptional setting for the Fête de la Musique. Every June 21st, the corsair city comes alive with dozens of concerts that take over the town squares as well as the gardens and terraces of local establishments. The 42nd national edition in 2025 confirmed the enthusiasm of Granville residents for this unmissable popular event.
Festivities begin at 10:30 AM with acoustic concerts in the town center cafes, where bands reinterpret the great French chanson classics. In the afternoon, the prestigious Jardin Christian Dior, overlooking the Mont-Saint-Michel bay, hosts classical music and film score concerts performed by students from the music schools of Avranches, Granville, and Fougères. The evening builds up with rock, pop, and variety bands on the Place du Général de Gaulle, while DJ sets continue until 1 AM.
One of the unique aspects of the Fête de la Musique in Granville is the active role of the town's cafe and restaurant owners, who program artists on their terraces themselves, creating an eclectic musical ensemble. From independent rock to electro DJ sets, including chanson à texte and jazz, each establishment adds its personal touch to this festive day.
From 6 PM, the center of Granville becomes pedestrianized, transforming the shopping streets into a vast open-air concert hall. The entire program is free and open access, allowing everyone to wander freely from one concert to another, according to their musical desires. The Fête de la Musique in Granville is a moment of sharing and conviviality that brings together locals and visitors in a joyful and relaxed atmosphere.
