Christmas Festival at Mont-Saint-Michel: shows, illuminations, and magic
Mont et Merveilles is a cultural and festive Christmas festival that takes place at Mont-Saint-Michel and in the bay communes during the end-of-year holidays. Created in 2025 by the Mont Saint-Michel Public Establishment in collaboration with the Centre des monuments nationaux and local authorities, this festival offers three weeks of shows, illuminations, concerts, conferences, and family activities. The first edition, from December 10, 2025, to January 4, 2026, attracted over 158,000 visitors, an increase of 16.6% compared to the previous year.
Inaugurated in December 2025, the Mont et Merveilles festival transforms Mont-Saint-Michel and its bay into a haven of light and magic during the holiday season. This major new cultural event offers three weeks of exceptional programming, combining live performances, artistic illuminations, concerts, and activities for all ages.
Mont et Merveilles is the result of a collaboration between the Mont Saint-Michel Public Establishment, the Centre des monuments nationaux (CMN), and numerous cultural and institutional partners: the Mont Saint-Michel-Normandie agglomeration, the communes of Avranches, Dragey-Ronthon, Genêts, Pontorson, Val-Saint-Père, and Dol-de-Bretagne. This unprecedented alliance demonstrates the ambition to make Mont-Saint-Michel a major cultural destination during the winter season.
Mont-Saint-Michel lights up for the holidays with monumental artistic installations: the Tree of Light, the creatures of the Marvelous Menagerie, a magical path, and aerial ballets that enhance the millennial architecture of the abbey and the village. These illuminations offer a magical and unprecedented vision of the Mont in the winter night.
The musical part of the festival ranges from a cappella Christmas carols to baroque concerts, including gospel, piano, and music inspired by world folklore. Concerts take place in emblematic venues such as the abbey church and the Odyssée theater. Conferences and readings explore the history, philosophy, and medieval wonders of the Mont.
The first edition of Mont et Merveilles was a remarkable success with 158,033 visitors in December 2025, an increase of 16.6% compared to December 2024. This result demonstrates the appeal of the concept and the quality of the programming, positioning Mont-Saint-Michel as a leading winter destination.
The festival places great importance on young audiences with magical encounters, poetic shows, imaginary adventures, visits from Santa Claus in the medieval streets, and sung processions of marine creatures. A true cultural advent calendar for young and old.
The 2nd edition of Mont et Merveilles is expected for the 2026 holiday season at Mont-Saint-Michel. Following the success of the first edition, the festival is expected to return with a new program of shows, illuminations, and family activities.
Building on the success of its first edition, Mont et Merveilles returns for the 2026 holiday season with a new cultural and festive program. The theme and program will be announced in the fall of 2026.
