About Fête de la Musique in Le Mans
Every June 21, Le Mans celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival): amateur musicians and professional artists play for free in the streets, squares, and forecourts of the city center, from the medieval alleys of the Cité Plantagenêt to the heart of the urban area. Organized by the City of Le Mans, the day is entirely free and open to all.
The Fête de la Musique in Le Mans
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Le Mans into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces in the late afternoon and evening, in all genres and for all audiences.
A festival throughout the city center
Usually, more than a hundred groups perform in the center of Le Mans: the Cité Plantagenêt and its cobbled streets, the squares and forecourts of the city center host open-air concerts, complemented by the bars, restaurants, and terraces participating in the evening. All styles coexist, from contemporary music to classical, including jazz, chanson, and world music.
