Every June 21, Vitré celebrates the Fête de la Musique (Music Festival): amateur musicians and local groups freely take over the streets, squares, and terraces of the historic center, at the foot of the medieval castle. Organized by the City of Vitré, the evening is entirely free and open to all.
The Fête de la Musique in Vitré
As everywhere in France since 1982, the Fête de la Musique transforms the city of Vitré, in Ille-et-Vilaine, into an open-air stage every June 21. Music freely takes over public spaces in the evening, in all genres and for all audiences, in the heart of a medieval city center ranked among the most beautiful in Brittany.
A festival in the historic center
Usually, several stages are set up in the streets of Vitré's city center, where amateurs and local groups take turns throughout the evening. The city's bars and restaurants join the celebration by hosting concerts on their terraces, against the backdrop of cobbled streets and half-timbered houses.
