Fête de la Soupe

A warm winter gathering

In the heart of winter, when the Plateau de Millevaches is covered in frost, the Fête de la Soupe warms bodies and spirits. Organized by the association Les Plateaux Limousins, this event brings together the inhabitants of the plateau and beyond around a simple and universal dish: soup. The event traditionally takes place in January or February at Le Villard, in Royère-de-Vassivière.

The grand soup contest

The principle is simple and joyful: each participant brings their own soup from 6 p.m. to take part in the grand contest. The public then votes to elect the best, the most original, and the most beautiful soups presented. Les Plateaux Limousins provide bread and cheese to accompany the tastings. A kids' corner with games, books, and coloring pages on the theme of soup is offered for the youngest.

Traditional dance and evening concerts

The evening continues with a traditional dance and concerts that liven up the plateau night. The Fête de la Soupe is much more than a simple culinary contest: it is a moment of exchange, sharing, and celebration that embodies the spirit of solidarity and conviviality specific to the Plateau de Millevaches. Some prepare the "Villardoise", the emblematic soup of the Plateaux Limousins.
