The festival of the small village on the heights of Montmorency
Margency, a village in the Val-d'Oise perched on the heights of the Montmorency forest, celebrates its municipal festival every summer in a warm and village-like atmosphere. Activities, shared meals, popular dances, and conviviality bring together the inhabitants of this small forest village for an authentic celebration. A popular event that strengthens neighborly bonds and perpetuates rural festive traditions.
Margency is a small village in the Val-d'Oise with just under two thousand inhabitants, perched on the heights overlooking the Montmorency forest and the Montmorency valley. This residential and wooded village, organized around its church and town hall, holds its municipal festival every summer in an authentically village spirit. The event, modest in size but generous in conviviality, is one of the most anticipated moments of the year by the Margency residents.
The Fête de Margency offers a program of activities suited to the size and spirit of the village. For children, inflatable games, a face-painting workshop, and clown or magician entertainment create moments of happiness and wonder. For adults, pétanque, dexterity games, and food stalls—barbecue, fries, crêpes—offer convivial activities to share. The raffle, an inseparable tradition of village festivals, allows attendees to try their luck for prizes offered by local businesses and associations. An orchestra or DJ entertains on Saturday evening, allowing residents to dance together until nightfall.
Margency benefits from an exceptional geographical location that contributes to its remarkable living environment. The panoramic views over the Montmorency forest, the neighboring plateaus, and, on clear days, the heights of Montmartre on the horizon offer impressive perspectives from the village's high points. The Montmorency regional forest, accessible within a few minutes' walk from the center, is a high-quality natural area for walks. The countryside paths that crisscross the surroundings allow for very pleasant rural strolls in the summer. The Fête de Margency is thus the ideal opportunity to combine festivities with the discovery of this exceptional natural territory in the Val-d'Oise.
The Fête de Margency is organized by a volunteer festival committee that works for several months in advance to prepare the event. The mobilization of residents to help with setup, serve at stalls, run games, and clean up after the festival is a fine example of village solidarity. Local associations participate with their own activities and stalls, bringing their expertise and enthusiasm to the collective organization. Part of the proceeds from the stalls are donated to community and charitable projects, reminding us that the festival is also an occasion to show solidarity with the most vulnerable.
