Gastronomic snail festival in Uzay-le-Venon
The Fête des Lumas is a traditional gastronomic event organized every year in Uzay-le-Venon during the Pentecost weekend. For three days, this festival celebrates the snail ("lumas" in local Berry dialect) through tastings, a producers' and artisans' market, concerts, a flea market, and family entertainment in a friendly and festive atmosphere.
The Fête des Lumas is one of the most authentic gastronomic events in the Cher department. Organized every year in Uzay-le-Venon during the Pentecost weekend, it celebrates the snail — called "lumas" in the local Berry dialect — which has been a culinary specialty of the region for generations.
For three days, the village welcomes thousands of visitors who come to taste snails prepared according to local tradition, subtly herbed. This ancestral recipe is the reason for the festival's fame and attracts lovers of regional gastronomy from all over the Centre-Val de Loire region and beyond.
The Fête des Lumas is structured around several highlights. Saturday evening kicks off the event with a concert that launches the festivities in a musical and friendly atmosphere. Sunday is dedicated to the producers' and artisans' market, where about thirty exhibitors offer local products, artisanal creations, and local specialties. It is also the day when visitors can stroll through the village streets in search of gastronomic bargains and taste the famous herbed snails.
Pentecost Monday concludes the festival with a large flea market that takes over the entire village. Bargain hunters wander among the stalls in search of treasures and antique objects, while the last snail tastings allow visitors to extend the culinary experience.
Beyond gastronomy, the Fête des Lumas embodies the festive and popular spirit of Berry village festivals. Children's entertainment, musical atmosphere, and conviviality between residents and visitors contribute to making this event an eagerly awaited family gathering each year. The festival testifies to the region's attachment to its culinary traditions and its rural identity.
