Saulieu is historically linked to the Christmas tree. Since the last century, fir trees from the Morvan forests have supplied large French cities, particularly Paris, by entire trainloads. The Morvan indeed has the ideal climate for growing fir trees: harsh winters, rarely dry summers, granite soil, and average altitude. Every year, at the beginning of December, the Saulieu Municipal Office of Culture celebrates this emblematic tree through the Fête des Sapins.

The Fête des Sapins offers a rich and family-friendly program:

• Sale of fir trees: Morvan nurserymen offer their Christmas trees, allowing you to choose directly from the producer.
