Saulieu, capital of the Christmas tree

Saulieu is historically linked to the Christmas tree. Since the last century, fir trees from the Morvan forests have supplied large French cities, particularly Paris, by entire trainloads. The Morvan indeed has the ideal climate for growing fir trees: harsh winters, rarely dry summers, granite soil, and average altitude. Every year, at the beginning of December, the Saulieu Municipal Office of Culture celebrates this emblematic tree through the Fête des Sapins.

A weekend of enchantment and traditions

The Fête des Sapins offers a rich and family-friendly program:

  • Christmas Market: local artisans and producers present their creations and specialties in an enchanting atmosphere.
  • Sale of fir trees: Morvan nurserymen offer their Christmas trees, allowing you to choose directly from the producer.
  • Intimate shows: theatrical performances, musical acts, and storytelling for children in a warm atmosphere.
  • Tastings: Morvan regional products, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts.
  • Activities: workshops for children, Christmas decorations, walks.

Rediscover the spirit of Christmas

The Fête des Sapins is a special moment to rediscover the spirit of Christmas in the heart of Morvan. Far from commercial hustle and bustle, the event invites you to rediscover forest traditions and the magic of a "nature" Christmas. The setting of Saulieu, a small town with Burgundian charm, with its decorated and illuminated streets, contributes to creating a unique atmosphere, conducive to family reunions and sharing.
