About Fête des Vins

The Fête des Vins d'Anjou and Saumur is a major wine event held annually in May on the Loire quays in Chalonnes-sur-Loire, about twenty kilometers southwest of Angers. Created in 1960 by a handful of Layon winegrowers, this popular festival brings together dozens of local producers for tastings, inductions by wine brotherhoods, concerts, a parade of boats on the Loire, and fireworks. It attracts around 15,000 visitors per edition.

The emblematic festival of the Anjou vineyard

Since 1960, the Fête des Vins d'Anjou has celebrated the Loire Valley's wine heritage every May on the banks of the Loire in Chalonnes-sur-Loire. Born from the initiative of a small team of Layon winegrowers supported by a few volunteers, this event has become over the decades one of the most important wine events in the region, attracting around 15,000 visitors each year.

An exceptional terroir in the spotlight

Organized by the Union de Producteurs des Grands Vins de Loire-Layon (UPGV), the Fête des Vins d'Anjou et de Saumur — its official name since 2020 — highlights the emblematic appellations of the Anjou vineyard: Anjou, Saumur, Coteaux du Layon, Quarts de Chaume, Savennières, Bonnezeaux. Dozens of winegrowers welcome visitors to the quays for tastings and direct sales, in a friendly and festive atmosphere.

A rich festive and cultural program

Beyond tastings, the Fête des Vins offers a varied program: inductions by local wine brotherhoods, a parade of Loire boats, concerts and musical entertainment, a flea market, food stalls with local specialties (fouées, rillauds, mogettes), and a spectacular fireworks display fired from the banks of the Loire. A wine hike is also offered on Sunday morning, providing a discovery of the vineyard landscapes of the Layon hills.

A popular event rooted in the territory

For over sixty years, the Fête des Vins d'Anjou has embodied the wine identity of this territory, a UNESCO World Heritage site (Loire Valley). The event has managed to renew itself while preserving its authentic and popular character, making this May weekend a must-attend event for lovers of wine and the Loire.
