The biggest Portuguese culture event in Île-de-France — 51st edition
Since 1975, the Franco-Portuguese Festival of Pontault-Combault has celebrated the unbreakable ties between France and Portugal. Organized by the Portuguese Cultural and Social Association (APCS) in the Town Hall park, this popular festival annually gathers tens of thousands of visitors in spring around Portuguese music concerts, folk groups, Lusitanian gastronomy, and cultural traditions. Over the decades, it has become the most important Lusophone gathering in Seine-et-Marne and one of the largest in Île-de-France. The Franco-Portuguese Festival has welcomed the greatest voices of Portugal — Tony Carreira, Nininho Vaz Maia, Iran Costa — and constitutes a living bridge between two sister cultures.
In 1975, a few years after the major waves of Portuguese immigration to France, a handful of Portuguese families settled in Pontault-Combault founded the Portuguese Cultural and Social Association (APCS) and organized the first Franco-Portuguese festival. What was initially a modest community gathering has become, in over fifty years, one of the largest events of Lusitanian culture in Île-de-France, attracting up to 35,000 visitors to the Pontault-Combault Town Hall park over a weekend.
The musical program of the Franco-Portuguese Festival gives pride of place to Portuguese music stars who rarely perform in France. Successive editions have welcomed Tony Carreira, an emblematic figure of Portuguese song, Nininho Vaz Maia, Iran Costa, Sérgio Rossi, Sandra Helena, and many other Lusophone artists. Portuguese folk groups in traditional costumes perform regional dances from Minho, Alentejo, or Madeira, perpetuating the traditions of their country of origin.
The festival is also a full-fledged gastronomic festival. Food stalls offer emblematic dishes of Portuguese cuisine: bacalhau à brás, carne de porco à alentejana, pastéis de bacalhau, sardinhas assadas, pastéis de nata, bolo de arroz, and many other specialties, accompanied by wines from Douro, Alentejo, and Dão. The smells of grilled food and Portuguese pastries perfume the Town Hall park throughout the weekend.
Beyond music and gastronomy, the Franco-Portuguese Festival is a place of cultural transmission. Craft stalls showcase traditional Portuguese know-how: azulejos, embroideries, filigree, ceramics. Children's activities, traditional games, and photographic exhibitions on the history of Portuguese immigration in France complete the program. The festival is also a moment of reunion for the Portuguese community of Seine-et-Marne and beyond.
In 2025, the Franco-Portuguese Festival celebrated its fiftieth anniversary, a historic milestone that testifies to the vitality and rootedness of Portuguese culture in Pontault-Combault and Seine-et-Marne. The 51st edition, in 2026, extends this heritage with a rich musical program and a solidarity dimension, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to three associations.
The 51st edition of the Franco-Portuguese Festival of Pontault-Combault will take place on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2026, in the Town Hall park. On the program: Portuguese music concerts, traditional folk groups, Lusitanian gastronomy, craft stalls, and an announced attendance of 35,000 visitors. More than eleven confirmed artists over the weekend.
After the success of the 50th edition in 2025, the Franco-Portuguese Festival of Pontault-Combault returns for its 51st edition on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2026. The Town Hall park will once again host Portuguese music concerts, folk groups in costumes, Lusitanian gastronomy stalls, and cultural activities that have made this event famous since 1975.
This 51st edition will have a strong solidarity dimension: a portion of the proceeds will be donated to three associations, including a French association from Pontault-Combault, a Portuguese association from Île-de-France, and a support mechanism for Portuguese communities affected by the storms of February 2026.
The organizers expect up to 35,000 visitors over the weekend. The Portuguese Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, José Manuel Fernandes, is announced among the official guests. The event's entertainment is provided by João Carlos Costa, accompanied by DJ LKP and MC DIEGO.
