The Fêtes de Hinx: The Festive Spirit of Chalosse

Nestled in the heart of Chalosse, about fifteen kilometers south of Dax, the commune of Hinx celebrates its patronal festival every summer with the enthusiasm and generosity that characterize the villages of the Landes. For four days, this village of about 1,500 inhabitants transforms into a festive place where ancestral traditions and popular entertainment blend.

Landes Races, The Beating Heart of the Festival

The Landes races are the highlight of the Fêtes de Hinx. In the village arena, the écarteurs (bull dodgers) and sauteurs (jumpers) face the fighting cows with remarkable agility and courage. These formal races, overseen by the French Federation of Landes Racing, offer a traditional spectacle where graceful evasion competes with daring jumps. The bandas accompany each pass with their brass music, creating an electric atmosphere in the stands.

Generous and Gourmet Festival Meals

Community meals punctuate each day, at noon and in the evening. Village associations—festival committee, sports clubs, cultural associations—take turns offering varied and generous menus based on local products. On Friday and Saturday evenings, themed meals bring together hundreds of guests around long, convivial tables. The gourmet market on Saturday lunchtime allows visitors to discover the flavors of Chalosse directly from local producers and artisans.

Bandas, Dances, and Village Entertainment

From morning to night, the bandas parade through the streets of Hinx, playing lively tunes that get young and old moving. The evenings continue with popular dances, concerts, and musical entertainment in the village square. The days are punctuated by pétanque tournaments, children's games, foot races, and moments of conviviality in the temporary bars set up for the occasion.

A Village Committed to the Festival

The Fêtes de Hinx are driven by a dynamic festival committee and all the communal associations. This remarkable volunteer commitment makes it possible to offer a rich and varied program each year, accessible to everyone. The Fêtes de Hinx embody the spirit of the Landes village festivals, where conviviality, sharing, and respect for traditions combine to create unforgettable moments.

An Authentic Chalosse Setting

Chalosse, a hilly region in the south of the Landes, is renowned for its gastronomy, green landscapes, and art of living. The Fêtes de Hinx are fully in line with this strong territorial identity, offering visitors an authentic immersion into Landes culture and traditions, far from the big ferias but with the same festive fervor.
