La Charité celebrates the Loire and summer
Every year in July, La Charité-sur-Loire celebrates summer and its river during the Fêtes de Loire. This traditional festive event brings together residents and visitors on the banks of the Loire for a weekend of popular celebrations around July 14th.
Program of festivities
The Fêtes de Loire offer a rich and varied program:
July 13th fireworks display
The highlight of the festivities is the fireworks display on the evening of July 13th from the banks of the Loire. This pyrotechnic show, visible from the quays and the stone bridge, illuminates the sky above the river and the imposing silhouette of the priory.
Concerts and popular dance
Open-air concerts liven up the evenings, with a program mixing popular music, rock, and festive tunes. The traditional popular dance invites dancers of all ages to gather on the dance floor by the water.
Family entertainment
Various activities are offered for families: children's games, street performances, boat trips on the Loire, and food stalls with local specialties.
La Charité-sur-Loire, City of Books and the Loire
La Charité-sur-Loire is a city of art and history located on the Loire River, in the Nièvre region. Its Cluniac priory, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela, is one of the most important Cluniac monasteries in Europe. The city is also known as the Cité du Mot (City of Words), housing numerous bookstores and hosting literary festivals.
A centuries-old link with the Loire
The Loire has shaped the identity of La Charité-sur-Loire for centuries. The river, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has been a major trade route, and Loire boatmen have long animated the city's port. The Fêtes de Loire perpetuate this link between the city and its royal river.
